Hey everyone! I just joined so I could vent to someone that actually cares haha! First off, I was inline for the Y&YM release many years back, and have been a hardcore fan since. Seen um live a couple times and all that jazz. KOL (and the Strokes) are the reason I started a band myself (for anyone that cares, myspace.com/swingingfingers) but anyways, I know my KOL hah! Okay so I saw Black Thumbnail on youtube a couple months back from their Voodoo show, and was stoked! I was like if the rest of the album is like this song, this is gonna be the best album yet! Next came Arizona, which again, was sweet! Totally had the KOL feel to it. Now, I don't mind bands that experiment a little, and try to find a new sound. When I heard the On Call single, I got a little scared. It grew on me, but the effects on the bass and vocals left me questioning some things. They never used effects before, and the raw sound is what really made them (similar to the Strokes first two albums). Okay so 2 of the first 3 songs I heard, overall not bad. I'm still digging the new album's chances. It's obvious they all advanced as musicians. Jered probably progressed the most, although Nathan's drummer is way more advanced. But I actually think this ruined them. Simpler was better I think for KOL. It's made them connect with so many people IMO. Last night I got a copy of the album, and listened to it the whole way through 2 times. WTF HAPPENED. Besides Arizona and BT, the rest is pretty much chopped to shit. Some songs are close, but they all sound like they are missing something. The effects ruin a lot for me, the reverb is out of control. I think being on tour with Pearl Jam had an impact on them. Everything sounds almost "mainstream" Caleb plays about half as much worth of guitar, and Matthew might as well have not even played on this album. I loved how on ASH you can tell when one of the two drop out, and how each one would add to the songs with the guitar parts. Nathan's drumming is so complicated that I start to pay attention to the drums, and besides Zep or maybe Rush, the drums never need to be the focal point. Very much like the 3rd Strokes album, KOL went a little too far out of the box. Thankfully we have 2 other albums full of simple, powerful, rock and roll. This pop stuff will work great for the American MTV crowd, which is the only market they need yet. Thank god for the Wildbirds. (myspace.com/thewildbirds) Peace, Jake Why hello there! Your band added me on myspace awhile back ago!

I've been listening to Camaro over and over trying to figure out what is so "bad" about it...but I can't find it, they all sound fine, and it's certainly not boring. Whatever, I like, that's all I'm going to worry about.

You cant find one specific thing "wrong" with camaro, the whole thing is the problem. It belongs on a far shittier bands album in 1992.
It's a dumb song, and by dumb i mean it's obvious and lacks imagination.
I keep listening to ithe record and beg my brain to accept this record for what it is but I can't. The new thing they are trying distinctly and wrongly repeats itself in almost every song. There is no flow.

its all just my opinion honey. And it seems to be shared, no amount of smilie eye-rolling is going to make this record any better.

karma strokette... I've been listening to it over and over since I downloaded it. I repeat, I love it. It gives me that good feeling inside that i've gotten from each of the previous albums. I don't know, it's definitely not boring. It's not the same old raucous KOL we are used to, but I think it's lovely...

I honestly cannot wait for them to tour again. I last saw them twice in Sept, and that was too long ago

The last time they were here I was in Italy which was a complete bummer for me in a way! They haven't been back since (that I know of at least) & i've never seen them in concert once! Lucky you!

Well, I haven't seen them since July...that is really too long. If they don't announce a US tour soon I might just burst.

Im entitled to complain about the poor quality of the record just as much as you are entitled to like it. I love KOL and this record is a let down.
If you dont want an open forum for opinions and discussion then you should create your own message board with only you as a member.
As far as me being negative, karma is something dumb people use to make normal people feel guilty. It doesn't hold water. Everything is relative. And because of the times is relatively in bad taste.

Electricrussia, everyone is entitled to their opinions, which is a good thing. I respect your opinion on the album, but I happen to feel the exact opposite about it. After listening to it a few times I really dig the path this young band is taking. To come from where they came from, and then to tour the world and see all these new and different things you can only hope and expect for them to reflect that while still sticking to their core. Which, after listening to the growth of this album compared to the two previous ones, I definitely do. Now you can say they're just trying to crack our American market and that's why it sounds the way it does. Or you can say they're just lazy or whatever. I'm sorry, but I don't feel that bro. That's just my opinion though.

As far as me being negative, karma is something dumb people use to make normal people feel guilty. It doesn't hold water. Everything is relative. And because of the times is relatively in bad taste. Why don't you go write to the record company then? And same goes to you, if you don't like the album then don't listen to it. And i'd love a message board with just me as a member, at least there will be no ignorant people on there complaining about un-changable things like hmmm...let me see Because of the Times for instance. Plus, if Karma is for "dumb people" then don't use it

I absolutely respect that. I agree with you about almost everything you said. Well, except I thought everybody knew by now that that whole humble beginings thing was a farce. Alot of that stuff is falsified, they were just part of a lower middle class family in the south, nothing special.
I feel like they are definitely pandering to the mainstream with this one. How they got to this point is none of my concern, I just want a record that i can love and listen to all the way through as many times as ive listened to ASH and Youth and young manhood.
I respect your opinion and the way you presented it. well put man

Strokette let me assure you i wont use karma or destiny or any of those other bullshit concepts that you probably use to make all of your decisions.
But, ignorant, seriously? Bad karma dear.
I dont want to change the record because now its infallable, I was giving my O-P-I-N-I-O-N about it. Not making plans for a time machine to go back and destroy the master tapes.
And if you made your own message board thered still be 1 ignorant person on it.
