Who else thinks it sucks balls and the Holly Roller Novocain is infinitely better.
For a while i never even knew there where two versions, i only had the HRN version, and i always thought it was a master piece. I recently downloaded the YAYM version and i can barely stand listening to it.
Its the first KOL song I hate. It's sad I know.
I would also like to know the logic behind this newer version...

Damn good question Andy... damn good question...
Most people are like? Whoa, there's an EP with a different version? I've just got the version that came on the album?
whoooaaaa..
I like the EP version more, just for those that are keeping score.. It get's me right here (I'm tapping my chest above my heart now).. Caleb's singing is really beautiful on it...
I dig the album version too don't get me wrong.. But there can only be one.

yeah i prefer the ep version as well. yaym version is still good though. i remember reading something a long time ago about why they changed it. something like it wasn't rockin enough.

ok can we distinguish between the ep and the album version for a second? cause i get confused. I know that one is way more polished... which is the one that is on my copy of yaym.
but I've always been under the impression that i have this freak version of yaym that no one has ever heard of, cause in addition to it having the polished california waiting, the version of dusty that's on it is the demo with ethan johns playing piano...
so I get really confused haha.

Yeah I read some stuff like that agggeeeess ago as well.
I think Caleb's quote was something like, "we want to write fuck off rock songs" and that "California Waiting sounded too much like a 'hit' song"
and some other stuff like they thought it was too overconsidered..

I understand where he's coming from on that... it does sound like a "hit" song. which is why my friends who don't like kol happen to love california waiting. it's a good song, but it's not true kings of leon.

I think I must have bought an import without realizing it. maybe it's the import from Norway or something.

Yeah bro, fuck off rock songs rule.
That bit sticks out in memory very well.. I just can't remember where it was said..
Probably NME or something...
ahh, that fucken..... introducing the band documentary, the 'prototype' version of California Waiting is all over that fucking thing. It seems to be their like "signature" song, if you had nothing else to go by, but that documentary.
If I had to guess, I'd say that their record company recognized the potential hit, and tried to push the band's agenda on the back of it, and the boys didn't wanna be used or something, so they rewrote it all nasty...
this is all in my imagination...

most of my friends bash em and make fun of me. then the other day one of my buddies admitted that he liked milk a whole lot! i told him to give the other songs a shot, but he was being ridiculed for even admitting that.

Guys don't get me wrong i love fuck off songs as much as the other person, but i just cant stand listening to it. It just doesnt sound good to me, usually fuck off songs sound good to me, i just don't think they did a good job with it. You know what it is, they over worked the fuck off part. Its too much fuck off and not enough song.

CW is one of my favourites. Why isnt it true KOL?Seems to fit in to the whole YAYM album doesnt seem like the odd one out.
Seems to me like you write a good song, then somone says its not what you want it to be then go and change it all because that one person didnt like it.
