Was just looking at the KOTR video from the offical website. And I think i've worked on a bit that mabye is wrong in the tabs section of happyalone.Only one bit ive got so far.
e ------------------------------- B ---------------------------2-- G ---------------------------2-- That Version x4 D ---------------------------2-- A -0-----------0---------------- E ---0-2-0-2-------0-2-0-----
Ive think ive got it but tell me what you think.IMO its easier than the other one.All on one line.
E --5----0-2-0-2/5----0-2-0-2--------7----0-5-0-5/7--0-5-0-5
Play this twice. The second party is shady according to the video its higher up on the fret board but it sounds identical, he may slide to 9 instead of 7.And mabye insted of 0-2-0-2 its 0-2-0-5 and same with the other one except with a 7.

the version you did is the right one because you could hear the slide in the song. its still the same music note though (A)

Does the tab you have go something like:
E G A G x 3 D?
For the main riff I mean? What you want to play is instead of an E chord to begin with, fret up a G barre chord, but lift off you index finger, so that the low E, B and high E are all open.
so play it like this:
e-0 B-0 G-4 D-5 A-5 E-0
that's how Caleb play's it, so easy to play as well.

E G A G E G A G E G A G D
IS the one in the tab sections, and it has mutes betwenn the G and A.
I think I get you so a reverse power chord sort of?So all together its?
-0-0-0-3-5-3--------10--------------------------------- -0-0-0-3-5-3--------10------------------------------- -4-4-4-4-6-4---x3--11----how many times it is---- -5-5-5-5-7-5--------12--------------------------------- -5-5-5-5-7-5--------12------------------------------- -0-0-0-3-5-3--------10---------------------------------

Yeah man,
that's exactly it... It's so much easier to play than trying to fret up the G, cause I mean it's quite a fast fucken tune isn't it..
You'll be addicted to playing it.. I love playing that riff!

SOFT, Correction..
This is just the middle 8 for soft.. Which is you know the chord stabs and stuff. The tab on this site has it as:
[Middle 8] - [CALEB PLAYS]
| C* | E7 | Am | Am | | C* | E7 | Am | Am |
But that E7 (02213X) is a real fucken stretch of a chord to play, especially if you're trying to play it fast, and sing! jesus.. So I was watching a live version of it, and Caleb doesn't play that chord.. He plays this thing like a C chord, but down at the 5th fret. Like this: (X7675X) play that in place of the E7, you don't have to change chord shapes and it's just much easier and quicker.. Oh yeah, and it's how the man himself wrote it.. so yeah.

One question on barre chords is it bas to play and E when youre doing a sequences like RML with your middle finger, third finger and pinky?Ive been doing that but ive been suspecting its wrong.

Well you're supposed to fret an E barre chord like with you 1st 2nd and 3rd finger's like this:
e-0 b-0 g-1 1st finger (index) d-2 3rd finger (ring) a-2 2nd finger (middle) e-0
This just makes it way easier to move to other chords from this position, like to a D or whatever... But I used to do the same thing, just hold that same barre chord shape right the way down the neck when playing RML, but try practicising moving into the proper fretting when playing it.. It'll make things way easier in the long run.

nah I disagree, I mean it all just depends on the song as to what is easier and then it can change mid song depending on the next chord or previous chord played.
So for RML I play the E chord without the first finger and use the pinky (hate that word) instead, but for Joes head I use the 'right' way of playing it.
Same with the open A chord I always used to play the D,G, and B strings with three different fingers after being told that's the correct way of playing it. Then I thought this is bollocks I'm a fool to myself, so now I play it with my index finger over the three strings. A lot easier
People should just play the way that feels most natural and comfortable, there is no right or wrong way.

I'm all for people doing what they feel comfortable with, I mean that's how I used to play my E barre chords.. and I used to barre the strings at the 2nd fret to play A as well. But I changed now, and fret them like you're "supposed" to.. so for and A: D = 2nd finger, G = 1st finger, B = 3rd finger.. this way you can change between the E barre chord, A, and D without having to lift your first finger... it makes for a lot smoother chord changes.. But you've gotta do what you feel comforatble with... Fatfriendfred, learn Link Wray's "rumble", it's a good song to play to get used to fretting up the E barre chord in the way it's "supposed" to be fretted.. But I mean there is no real right or wrong way.. it all sounds the same

i love learning to play their songs. or anyone's good songs for that matter. one of the reasons why i collect live footages and/or bootlegs because you can learn/steal/borrow A LOT when the camera zooms in on matthew's licks and caleb's chords or that you can pick up jared's new bass lines.
the easiest way isn't always the best or right way because it can sometimes change the sound of the music. Online tabs aren't completely reliable either. Of course sometimes it's best left to interpretation.

All of the bass tabs floating around are completely off too. KOTR for example says its played on G and D but live he plays it on A and D.

Do you think that they (or jared) might do a slight change up live? If the live show version is any different than on the record, chances are they did change it. But I doubt that a lot so maybe the published tabs are wrong.
Edit: By the way, do you guys play be ear or read notes? Majorly, I play by ear but i read notes too.

I've been playing on and off for a couple of years now. I mainly play my own stuff, I dont spend much time on other people's songs. I did just get a Gibson Thunderbird 4 in Classic White and it rocks!
