I just think it's the idea of them doing things with their mouths... er... heh. I was going to say that didn't come out right, but I think that it did.

Have some karma for the giggle you just gave me, Nee.
I'm probably a non-smoking smoker; I have cravings for a cig but never actually smoked. Tried a couple of times, but I'm glad I always failed.

You have cravings for it? I guess I've sometimes wanted to try when I'm drinking and there are others smoking, but that's probably just compulsive drunken behaviour. Returned when I can btw.

Yea, I must've been a chain-smoker in another life or something. I always get offered cigs too, cos people forget I don't actually smoke. Even good friends. I'm sure my rants about smoking-bans help towards that too.

For the record, i prefer to destroy my liver rather than my lungs. That's all.

I suppose liver transplantations are easier than lung ones.

Never have and never will. Ever! I'm glad you guys are healthy and don't copy the kings. It looks so cool, but I'm not THAT desperate.

I suppose liver transplantations are easier than lung ones. I used to have asthma as a kid, and I know what it's like not to be able to breathe. Before they ever find a transplant for you, you'll have to live 10 years with a portable oxygen tank. Very sexy. And no, thanks. You have to really lose control with the drinking to go the Townes van Zandt route. I guess i am not too worried that I'd ever reach that level.

I used to have asthma as well, not fun.

I've always had horrible asthma, but it's mostly under control now This thread, and the talk of smoking in general gave me one of those sense memories! I SWEAR I could smell the Marlboros that my dad smoked all my life, and how how it smelled on all his coats with his aftershave, it was always comforting even though it was SMOKESMELL!

Maybe it's all that second hand smoke I lived with growing up that makes me want a cigarette when I'm drinking.

I don't feel it was the actual secondhand smoke that started me off, but the implication that smoking was the done thing. As I mentioned, my whole family has smoked at one time or another, so it struck me as a perfectly normal thing for me to do.
I also has asthma as a child (and still occasionally suffer with it now) so it wasn't the greatest idea. But the fact that, despite my asthma, my dad was still smoking 40 a day shows how ingrained it was.

I've smoked for 20 years and believe me, if i knew then what i know now (ie: that i would cough my guts up every morning, get frequent chest pains and start talking more like a bloke than a woman) i would never ever have started! Definitely want to be a complete non smoker by the time im 40, but thats a few years off yet so i'll carry on ruining my lungs in the meantime!

i don't like smothing neither. i just think it kinda suits a couple of people, it makes them look hot somehow. like johnny depp or matty or slash (yeah that hairy beast with the guitar ) i tried smoking for the very first time at age 21 at last year's christmas party. i was drunk and i only took one deep breath. i swear, the day after was the worst day ever. my throat was about to explode and i felt sooo weird all day long, ended up in puking by the way i'll stick to the non-smokers 4 life y'all

I doubt I'd ever smoke because I've watched my brother try to quit so many times and he's always failed. And plus I remember watching a video in health in like 7th grade about this woman who go emphysema at a young age from smoking so much. She said the first time she tried a cigarette she felt nauseous and I don't like feeling nauseous so.... it's not gonna happen.

deedee - it does shit all for yer skin as well, this is the first time in my smoking life i've wanted to quit - 12 years - i almost did a couple o months ago, wish i had, there was one cigarette and i jst knew if i smoked it that'd b it i'd b smoking again. thing is i used to really enjoy it and wasn't fussed about quitting but once u want to and can't it's kinda crappy, so good luck to you i really hope you do it. u can! i don't remember feeling sick after my first cigarette, light-headed maybe, i enjoyed it i guess hence why i've been doing it ever since. if i quit i'll still want something every now and then, like nathan used or still does smoke cigars, god i love cigars. big fat cuban cigars. rahh mf!! haha with bourbon... god that's a good combo! i'm kidding, i've only tried the lady like ones. but it's that rough cold air on the back of your throat, it's delicious. honestly... i don't wanna quit why would i wanna do that!? i do. i will. i just love smoking. god bless my long post! i dedicate it to every cool movie star, rock star, and to all the magnificent marketing pr men advertising gurus working current day for the tobacco companies. here's to you! *cough cough*

just jumping in here, but i'm not a dedicated smoker, but i smoke on and off either when i'm at concerts, or hanging out with people, or if i'm REALLY bored, but i don't need to go buy a pack of cigarettes a day. i used to when i was traveling/working a lot, though. i can kind of turn my cravings on and off really quickly.
on the other hand, i have a recent picture of jared in the studio smoking and every time i catch a glimpse of it, i always get a brief hankering for a cigarette :/ he's such a bad influence (as if i'd ever complain about that)
