Just wondering if anyone else is a fan of The National? I just found out (rather belatedly) that they have a new album due out early 2010, new song sounds AMAZING! Does anyone else know anything more specific about this, or is it "aaaall up in the air "

I love them! I saw them last year and I loved the gig. I didn't hear anything about the new album, but I'm with Ruth, if it's half as good as Boxer I'll be happy.

Oh I'd LOVE to see them live, they came here once before I'd heard of them. I hate it when that happens! This is the new song, if you havn't heard it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjskJAKeJdM (tentatively called Runaway). It does have a bit of a Boxer feel to it. I've watched this an embarrassing amount of times... He's so cool and nonchalant with his hands in his pockets!

I'll check that video tomorrow Jessica, thanks for giving the link I think I can't choose a favourite from Boxer, but I was addicted to Apartment Story for a long time.

For me it's a 3 way tie - Theory of the Crows, Guest Room and Slow Show. Oh, and 29 Years. That song (/speech?) makes me cry. "I'll never have a change of heart, my swan will never sing, I have no heart the swan is gone and now I wear the wings". Sigh.

This is pretty weird. I'm just listening to Boxer(which i haven't done in ages) and i come on here(which i also haven't done in aaages!) and i see this thread! Coincidence? I think not.... Anyway yeah i love them- my brother introduced me to them a couple of years ago. Seen them in the Olypmia last year too and at Oxygen- at which Matt came right down to the crowd and got up on the railing right infront of my brother and I. Both gigs were class. I didn't know they had a new album coming out! That's so cool. I can't wait. That will mean another tour some time soon! Yay. EDIT: Just listened to the new song- how is it that every single one of their songs is so effortlessly class and moving. Matt's voice is just beautiful and so full of emotion- he's got to be one of my favourite singers, along with Ryan Adams, Jeff Buckley, Bruce Springsteen, Matt Bellamy, Eddie Vedder and Angus Stone.

^ Your edit I reckon totally sums them up. Matt's voice is too amazing... And they are doing a tour, mostly the US and I think it's around the time KoL are doing it (I know they're both going to Bonaroo... As if I needed another reason to want to go there ) PS The quote in your sig, from The Sadness is one of the coolest lines ever. Have a karma

Thanks for the karma. I love that picture in your avatar btw. Have some karma too. I was just watching the "Writing the hits with Stupid" video on youtube and his acoustic bedroom version of Halloweenhead. God how i love that man and all his endless talent. Pure Genius.

From NME: "The national have quietly become one of the most important bands of their generation. Obama loves them, and the Dessner Twins curated the stunning 'Dark Was The Night' compliation. They're not just do-gooders though - this, the opening number off forthcoming record 'High Violet', demonstrates their willingness to deliver a punch to the heart with their tight coil-and-release catharsis, and Matt Berninger's voice could knock you out cold even if he were reading the bus timetable. Just gorgeous" www.youtube.com/watch?v=G54D-Y4m_WQ<3

^ Woohoo, that song's amazing! Very 'Alligator'... And this one (Vanderlyl Crybaby Geeks) is SO good too (I don't like hearing ALL the songs from the album, but they've been playing heaps live recently, the temptation is too much ) And everyone: if you haven't yet listened to/bought Dark Was The Night, do so. It's got (previously unreleased or cover) songs by them, Bon Iver, My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire, Cat Power, Beirut, Iron & Wine, The Decemberists... and more. All proceeds were going to go the (RED) AIDS appeal but I think they decided to give some to Haiti...

^ For some reason it won't let me watch it (I think, I'm not so good with the translation ). But 'Kink TV' sounds delightful... And yes, for the record, High Violet is amazing.
