Have you got any favourite lyrics that mean a lot, or are about friendship and that, but aren't really corny? Thanks.

On a more serious note, I think Bloc Party's lyrics are some of the best around. Here's a sample:
"You told me you wanted to eat up my sadness Well jump on, enjoy, you can gorge away You told me you wanted to eat up my sadness Jump right" from This Modern Love
"Oh how our parents they suffered for nothing Live the dream, live the dream, live the dream Like the 80s never happened. People are afraid, are afraid To merge on the freeway. Disappear here" From 'Song For Clay'
As for songs about friendship and love?? I like to listen to depressing lyrics so not sure about that!

My all time favorite: "If you've lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long." - The Libertines
Other favorites:
"A mind that wants to wander around a corner is an un-wise mind. Now, is, be here now." - George Harrison

"If you hate the taste of wine why do you drink it till you're blind? And if you swear that there's no truth and who cares how come you say it like you're right? Why are you scared to dream of god when it's salvation that you want? You see stars that clear have been dead for years but the idea just lives on." -Bright Eyes
"Yeah you, now you, now you You’ve finally left school Oh what on earth Do you intend to do? See if you can, Take the man, go round town Where all you Skins and Mods Now get together Make pretend It’s 1969 forever Find a girl, have a drink, Have a dance and play." -Babyshambles
"Sick of themselves And sick of their slums Give everybody a gun And put it on the television That’s Reality TV, I’d pay to see Not lobotomized celebrities and wannabe’s" - The Libertines
“She said “I’ll show you a picture A picture of tomorrow There’s nothing changing It’s all sorrow Oh no please dont show me” - The Libertines

My favorite lyricist is Issac Brook from Modest Mouse, he's just a few of my favorite lyrics he's composed
''If lifes not beautiful without the pain, Well i'd rather never ever even see beauty again''
''Well, the point was fast but it was too blunt to miss, Life handed us a paycheck and we said, 'We worked harder then this!''
And the next one just amazes me with how brilliant is (if i had to pick a favorite...)
''If God controls land and disease, keeps a watchful eye on me, If he's really so damn mighty, my problem is i can't see Who would wanna be? Who would wanna be? Such a control freak?''

I'm floating down a river Oars freed from their homes long ago Lying face up on the floor Of my vessel I marvel at the stars And feel my heart overflow
Further down the river Further down the river Further down the river Further down the river
Two weeks without my lover I'm in this boat alone Floating down a river named emotion Will I make it back to shore? Or drift into the unknown
Further down the river Further down the river Further down the river Further down the river
I'm building an antenna Transmissions will be sent When I am through Maybe we can meet again Further down the river And share what we both discovered Then revel in the view
Further down the river Further down the river Further down the river Further down the river
I'm floating down a river

Here are the lyrics to a song my kids won't let me play at home. Our darling wandered far away while she was out at play, Lost in the woods she couldn't hear a sound... She was our darling little girl the sweetest thing in all the world, We searched for her but she couldn't be found... I heard the screams of our little girl, far away, Hurry Daddy there's and awful dreadful snake, I ran as fast as I could through the dark and dreary woods, But I reached our darling girl too late... Oh I began to cry I knew that soon she'd have to die, and the snake was watching us close by, I held her close to my face she said daddy kill that snake, It's getting dark tell mommy goodbye... To all parents I must say don't let your children stray away, They need your love to guide them along... Oh God I pray we'll see our darling some day, It seems we still hear her voice around our home. Here is a remake of the song. www.sendspace.com/file/ot1tp5

I particularly like "I've got no plans and too much time/I feel too restless to unwind/I'm always lost in thought as I walk the block to my favorite neon sign". GUH. I've never had something hit so personal. I could have written that. Only, I can't write that well. Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure" has one part with my favorite lyrics ever. "Cause love's such an old fashioned word/And love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night/And love dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves/This is our last dance/This is ourselves"

Not really about friendship, but it definitely fits the state I'm in.
Rainy Days and Mondays by The Carpenters
Talkin' to myself and feelin' old Sometimes I'd like to quit Nothing ever seems to fit Hangin' around Nothing to do but frown Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
What I've got they used to call the blues Nothin' is really wrong Feelin' like I don't belong Walkin' around Some kind of lonely clown Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you Nice to know somebody loves me Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do Run and find the one who loves me.
What I feel has come and gone before No need to talk it out We know what it's all about Hangin' around Nothing to do but frown Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.

"Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun Much to blind to see the damage he's done Sometimes a man must awake to find that really he has no-one." Jeff Buckley- Lover You Should Have Come Over. "There's a man on the corner and his clothes are worn And he's holding out his hand You can see in his eyes as the people walk by He knows they don't understand See they just think he's gonna take their money And go and spend it on dope Then a man stopped by him and i saw a smile inside him As he gently whispered hope Well the tramp started to cry, just kept saying "Why? why? why? Can't you see i'm a down and out I'm 32 and i've got this one pair of shoes And a bad taste in my mouth I think it's clear to see that even God don't love me Or else why would he leave me this way" Then Gabriel just smiled and said be peaced my child Salvation is here today He got up to his feet and he sang Hallelujah People were turning around in the street He looked them in the eyes and he sang "Hallejuah There's someone here that you gotta meet Someone you just gotta meet" When the vagabond turned around well without a sound Gabriel just smiled and disappeared Then he looked to the crowd and they were laughing out loud But he could not see them for tears When his vision came round There was a young girl on the ground And he knew she was finding it hard to cope She never was a fighter until he lay beside her And gently whispered hope They got up to their feet and they sang Hallelujah People in the street were turning around They looked them in the eyes and they sang "Hallelujah There's someone here we have found" They sang "Hallelujah, Hallelujah We are the voices crying in the wilderness Hallelujah, Hallelujah" The people in the street started their sins to confess in a chorus of, "Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Every knee will bow and every tongue confess I'm the voice of one crying in the wilderness Crying out Hallelujah, Hallelujah" " Foy Vance- Gabriel and the Vagabond. Please check out this song. It's one of the most beautiful songs i've heard. If you like it buy his album. IT's amazing. Best one all year. Y'know that feeling when you see someone for the first time, and there's that instant attraction, like 'love' at first sight? These lyrics describe that feeling perfectly, I find.
Sioen - At a Glance
I sing a song you pass me by and I am shooting stars in your direction easy now 'cause I am drifting way too fast
I sing a song it's maybe not the kind that makes you sad, i know yet i sing along but it's too late, you drove me mad and now i'm lost it's in your way it's in your smile i want to find out who you are it's innocent but in a flash you stole my heart and now i'm lost
it's in the way at a glance you struck me like an avalanche I've got it bad but easy now 'cause i am always drifting way too fast
i wanna feel, wanna grab, wanna hold you, get to know you need to find out who you are i sing a song it's too late you passed me by and now i'm lost
i wanted to find out i wanted to find out i still want to find out i wanted to find out

This is from Tori Amos....I think it's funny:
"Soon you'll be a superstar, get off the cross we need the wood."
