"we must rip out all the epilogues in the books that we have read, into the face of every criminal strapped firmly to a chair we must stare..." 'At the Bottom of Everything' -Bright Eyes. Basically the whole song has the best lyrics I've ever heard. I used to think Bright Eyes was so pretentious, and now, I am in love with them!

I feel like I discovered a new planet, that's one of my favorite cds right now, I've listened to it a million times this past week, along with the new josh ritter album and band of horses. speaking of josh ritter, another favorite: "If this was a cold war we could keep eachother warm." -Josh Ritter

My friends and I were just talking about which songs we are using for our first dance...we all "reserved" them. Mine is, and always has been, First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes...it's the most romantic song I've ever heard. The lyrics are so sweet.

Every single song written by Interpol.

Pretty apt for the day that's in it:
so this is the new year. and i don't feel any different. the clanking of crystal explosions off in the distance (in the distance).
so this is the new year and I have no resolutions for self assigned penance for problems with easy solutions
so everybody put your best suit or dress on let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn as thirty dialogues bleed into one
i wish the world was flat like the old days then i could travel just by folding a map no more airplanes, or speedtrains, or freeways there'd be no distance that can hold us back.
there'd be no distance that could hold us back
-the new year, by death cab

"Come up to me and say 'Why are you so skinny and pretty for a boy?'" We all know who that is by. People rag on me alot for being skinny and "pretty" or "girly". When I first heard that song I got the goosebumps once he sang those lyrics.

We drank bottled water together and talked business. I think I played the right moves. You were lookin' over my shoulder, as I went through the motions of another night, And it was alright, 'cause I thought I knew who everybody was just by lookin' at them. My heart is anywhere but here, and how tired I was from the past couple of weeks, From the past couple of years. Well, it hit me all at once, On a balcony overlooking nothing, With snow falling all around, Well I, I called just to say "Goodnight". And you hadn't done anything wrong, And know, really, really, it's me not you. I can't believe how naive I was to think things could ever be so simple, And can you live with what you know about yourself, When you're all alone, behind closed doors? The things we never said, but we always knew were right there. It's got me on my knees in a bathroom, Praying to a God that I don't even believe in, "Well, dear Jesus, are you listening?" If this is the one chance that really matters, Well, don't let me fuck this up. If you'd told me about all this when I was fifteen, I never would have believed it.
Tonight We're Gonna Give It 35%- Against Me!

I think Florence + the Machines lyrics are beautiful. Especially Cosmic Love:
I took the stars from my eyes, and then I made a map And knew that somehow I could find my way back Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too So I stayed in the darkness with you

Thought I'd never see The love you found in me Now it's changing all the time Living in a rhythm where the minutes working overtime Catch me I'm falling down Catch me I'm falling down Don't stop just keep going on I'm your shoulder to lean upon So come on deliver from inside All we got is tonight and that is right till first light -Empire Of The Sun 'Walking On A Dream'
I can give it all on the first date I don't have to exist outside this space And dear know that I can change But if stars shouldn't shine By the very first time Then dear it's fine, so fine by me 'Cause we can give it time So much time With me And I can draw the line on the first date I'll let you cross it Let you take every line I've got When the time gets late But if stars shouldn't shine By the very first time Then dear it's fine, so fine by me 'Cause we can give it time So much time With me If you want me Let me know Where do you wanna go No need for talking I already know If you want me Why go -The XX 'Stars'

'Was your work of art so heavy That it will not let you live You'll be missed. Soon there'll be flowers in the river Tears being shed You'll be missed.'
From The Sun is Often Out by Patrick Wolf.
I also love the line 'Grace is lost to thunder' from his song Wind in the Wires.

And if I could up the damage that I rendered in my life, Place it on a scale and weigh against the damage done that night, Then it'd be safe to say the weight of all I did and didn't do, Would surely float against the lightest wrong I ever did to you...
- The Avett Brothers, Distraction #74...
It took me a while to actually 'hear' these lyrics because they are sung so wonderfully... I was taken by the different voices and harmonies before I actually heard what they were singing about...
When I saw them live Scott was like 'this song is about doing something wrong... and not fixing it'... and I think it sums it up perfectly!

Thought of another one. Pretty much all of 'Nobody' by Amy Studt. When I first started suffering with depression and agoraphobia I had just bought this album and this song seemed almost written for me.
I'll cut out all the bridge-type parts of it as they look stupid written down.
'Sometimes it seems that I have no place. And I don't know what to do, with myself. Light up another, I can taste the filth inside. And I need to cleanse my soul.
Nobody knows, nobody cares that I die, on the inside. Nobody sees the lie that is me, as I smile on the outside. Nobody knows, nobody cares that I walk, on the wrong side. Tell me who..nobody. Tell me who..nobody. Tell me who..nobody. But you.
All the friends that I've had, where are they now? Guess I'm far too intense to be loved. All the things that I hate, I hate about myself. And I need to cleanse my soul'
