Didn't see a thread for this so figured i'd start one.
The Kings put on an AMAZING show last night. Much tighter than the last time we saw them in Nov (when even Caleb apologised for not playing their best). Lots of eye contact/communication on stage (esp btwn Jared & Matt), and every song sounded spot on. They also added some rock star moves that really put this show on a different level.
We managed to get a spot on the barrier right in front of Nathan's drum kit, so had a great view all night. The crowd was sooo into it, singing/dancing/clapping along to every song, not just SOF. Crowd surfing, girls climbing up on guys shoulders. It was nuts!!!
And the venue was gorgeous -- outdoor ampitheater with the stage directly overlooking a lake. Seemed like the band really enjoyed being there. Caleb even mentioned how they rarely get to play in places this beautiful. Only problem was the venue is right in the middle of upscale suburbia, with a SERIOUS noise ordinance and 10 pm sound curfew. So needless to say, this was the quietist KOL gig we've ever been to. Kind of like watching them play with the mute button on. lol Felt bad for them, especially after Caleb apologised for not being able to "play a real rock show". But they still sounded great, just not very loud.
Setlist (not 100% sure of the order). But no Red Morning Light or new devil song.

Highlights:
Rock Star move #1. The band walked onstage as the Mozart piece ends. Caleb strapped on his guitar, turned his back to the crowd, and then just stood there for a min with his arms stretched out like a friggin god!
Jared burst out laughing at someone in the crowd during the middle of a song. Have no idea what the guy was doing, but it must have been hilarious. Was great seeing moody Jared with this HUGE grin on his face.
Two drunk girls up front who kept screaming for Nacho while KOL were playing. Why they weren't screaming for Jared/Matt/Nathan/Caleb, i have no idea. But i'm guessing they mainly came to see Nacho, and hearing the Kings play was just a bonus. lol
Cold Desert. I never cry at gigs. But there's something about hearing this song live that makes me weep every single time.
Rock Star move #2. The guys walked onstage for the encore like they normally do. But instead of going right into the first song, they just stood there for a min like statues while the crowd went nuts. I've never seen them do something like this before, but it had "rock star" written all over it.
During the encore, Caleb thanked the crowd for coming, etc. And then, with an evil little laugh, asked us to "go knock on everyone's door and wake em up" as we were leaving the neighbourhood. Yeah, f*ck you noise ordinance!!
End of Black Thumbnail, and the whole band just went for it. Caleb kicked over the mic stand and started headbanging. Matt jumped up on the drum riser and started shredding his guitar. And the crowd was screaming by this point. Then afterwards, lots of smiling, waving, thumbs up from all of them, Jared toasting us with his beer, etc. At the very, very end Caleb knotted up his kerchief, stepped down from the stage to the barrier where we were and handed it to this guy in the crowd who'd been rocking out all night. A moment i'll never forget.
Sorry for the essay. But i'm going to be buzzing off this gig for weeks!! We're already talking about going to the Red Rocks show in Aug. Aaaaaahhh, i love this band.
