Tim: In SF the general rule is if the lens is attached to the camera and doesn't come off (like pro camera), then you are okay. However, last time I went to that venue (Civic Center for Bob Dylan and Kings in 07) they were SUPER strict about the camera policy per the artist request. I couldn't even take out my phone without getting hassled. So if they guys tell them no cameras, they will definitely enforce it.

i don't see a problem with cameras either. i think there are other things security should be worried about. it always cracked me up how people openly smoke joints in front of security yet when a camera is visible, it's like "oh noes! it's a camera!!! "

My point exactly... I'll bring it, since it's so small and if they are strict about it, then I just won't take it out. I probaby wouldn't end up taking pics anyway.

Yes, per the artists or management request they can say no cameras. If the artists says NO CAMERAS then the security has a job now of enforcing that. No problem in risking it but if you are in front on the barricade the main job of the security between the barricade and the stage is to enforce the camera policy. They will flash lights at people if they see them out too even if those people are a few rows back.
Management and artists find them distracting and may not want their stuff online. So, if they choose to say no cameras, then so be it.

Oh I don't know what to do about the camera! Perhaps I won't bring it to the shows. I love getting pics from the gigs but sometimes it can be distracting. At least if I don't bring it I will be able to rock out for the night without having to worry about the bloody camera!

When I went to the MEN Arena last year for the X Factor it said no cameras but everyone had them, I videoed pretty much the whole concert on my phone and no one said anything, and are they gonna stop you taking your phone in there?

Hi everyone! I just got my tickets for the kol show in Calgary and it doesn't say anything about not being allowed to have cameras.. I think it depends on the venue/band? I know when i went to The Killers they had a strict camera policy :-\

It usually varies from venue to venue, regardless of what the artist says. Call your venue and ask if they will allow cameras at that show.
