Beneath the Surface is INCREDIBLE in my opinion .. so anthemic, & the echos of Caleb's voice in Frontier city are so so good. These songs in my opinion are reminiscent of Because Of The Times!
Yet they put 17/Revelry .. which to me have no Kings attitude in them at all. I can't understand why these were on there ..
I don't know. What are your opinions? The B-sides are on youtube if anyone hasn't heard them.

AGREEEEEED!!!! 17 and revelry have always been my least fav on the album..then i heard Beneath the Surface and was like ..i couldn't understand for the life of me why that wasn't on the album..and when i first heard Frontier City i wasn't the biggest fan..but i grew to love it sooo quickly! once i actually listened to lyrics i was hooked! I also don't know why many of the other B-sides didn't make it on the albums..personally..i love love LOOVE Woo Hoo but what i kind of like is that not many non KoL fanatics know of the Bsides..so it's like our own little secret..they're our gems

You guys have both hit the nail on the head. 17 and Revelry would not have been missed off OBTN if Beneath the Surface and Frontier City had been included. I don't know what they were smoking the day they chose the tracks!

damnit! how long does it take me to write a post lol there were no other replies before lol i don't agree with you about Revelry and 17. they have a bunch of character to them, as to attitude how could you say a line like bloody mary breakfast busting up the scene, brothers's frightened when's the baby gonna sleep' has no attitude to it? i know what you mean but yr wrong i dunno why esp' Frontier City wasn't on that album, maybe cause they are too BoTT-like. I definately, definately, DEFINATELY would swap anything to get rid of I Want You, Be SOmebody .. jst why? it's such a pointless song and Notion jst sounds like Revelry, dnt like that little section of the album, seems unnecessary, think Beneath the SUrface wouldn't work but Frontier CIty would. Then, you gotta consider that if they did use, say, I Want You as a B-Side it's so awful it would undermine there reputation for having fantastic b sides. and it's done enough damage so i don't want it infecting that reputation cause i can imagine ' oh they have fantastic b sides, flawless, apart from that one' points finger. sorry i really dnt like the song and who the hell requested it at b'ham?

Revelry has some lovely lyrics and melody, I agree. But as a whole I don't think it stands up to the two B-sides mentioned. 17 sounds like a novelty song - like they said SoF was supposed to be (except it doesn't have the hook of SoF).
I absolutely love the album, so don't want to sound like I don't! But their B-sides for this one are just so damn strong.

i do agree with you, whiskers, that THAT whole section of the album is my least favorite..those songs do tend to meld together...and maybe Beneath the Surface would groove well with OBTN..but i still think it should not be a B-side..it's too good...but yea i do agree that Frontier City would fit in more in OBTN than Beneath the Surface.
for me..it's the Christmas-y sound in the beginning of 17 that turns me off..the bells and all..i dunno..just not what i expected from the boys..

I'm wondering if it was written like that though? the sound of it, cause Beneath the Surface is so much more representational of a classic Aha track. Yes|! i am a geek. hahaa wow. jst caught how i sounded. I don't know why they weren't on there, it's just ya know the fates and stuff maybe there was a particular heavy south westerly wind that kicked up that day and they were like woo were witches.

Both songs just sound so cheesy and superficial (referring to 17 and revelry). I get what you mean about the lyrics but idk, I just get a rushed feel with them. From the day I first listened to them to now, I still get puzzled as to why they're there. I dunno, I just think the album is 10x more important than b-sides too. Don't get me wrong, I like the album. I just think they were put there to manufacturer the album more. I just adore the lyric "hair so red, I couldn't keep her". And the lead guitar line through beneath the surface is awesome! Ugh, such a waste. But I definitely agree with the previous poster that mentioned that they are untouched .. It's almost Kings way of saying "yeah some of our songs are commercial, but we've still got these little gems to still show who we really are"

oh no don't say that! this: "I definitely agree with the previous poster that mentioned that they are untouched .. It's almost Kings way of saying "yeah some of our songs are commercial, but we've still got these little gems to still show who we really are" " that's just so wrong ;p you can't say that no nononononoo you know what that means? no! maybe i've misread but yr freaking me out saying that. *breathes and counts to ten* i edited my previous post up there btw. you can't say that. oh i see, you're implying that they're keeping us happy or themselves or both by suggesting that the rock balance be restored cause there's the evidence of a lot more mor natured tracks. k, thought you were saying something else i'm gna go have a cold shower and calm down.

Why is that bad? Caleb even admitted in an interview that the album is more commercial, everyone knows it! It's still fabulous but clearly it has reached a larger audience. I wasn't referring to you either hun, I was referring to down_with_sleeves comment "but what i kind of like is that not many non KoL fanatics know of the Bsides..so it's like our own little secret..they're our gems " Ugh, I feel like such a KOL nerd right now.
