Um so I just got home from driving a couple of hours to Rotterdam today..... wow.
Great gig but that was just not cool, they pretty much cut the set short for no reason cos honestly the crowd wasn't even that bad. I have no idea what was bothering them...... but very shitty thing to do. I came from Belgium but I saw people from the UK and the US there.
It was once again confirmed to me that they only really give a shit about their UK and US crowds, and I guess the occasional Australian gig is good too.
Meh. Something was obviously bothering Caleb. He was kinda crabby then kept apologizing for being crabby saying they do appreciate us yada yada.
Disappointed I can't lie. We pay like everyone else does.
The crowd loved them but when they just disappeared everyone started booing. Ouchie.

Shit, I'm really sorry. That seriously sucks. I hope they had good reason for cutting the show short, cos like you say...that isn't cool!

Well yeah it was just odd cos everyone obviously expected them to come back, the lights were out everyone was hollering and the roadies were doing things with the instruments then all of a sudden wham lights go on. Everyone was all ERRRR and then people started booing it was a very strange experience. I saw them last week in Cologne so I will just have to treasure that good experience. Seriously though, the crowd was good, so its not like they had a reason to be pissed off. The Americans behind me were SUPER bummed. They were from Minnesota so yeah that has to suck they played only little over an hour. So hm yeah if anyone has any clue what was going no, do fill us in

I wonder if Caleb was ill or something? Specially if he was apologising for being crabby?
(I'm clutching at straws here - it's very unKingslike to do something like that. They never stint on their shows)

Yeah I have no clue he was being weird though definitely. He just kept saying things that made it seem he didnt like the crowd, then he would apologize and say that they appreciate it so much how we all support them. But the roadies and everyone also had no idea cos it was very out of the blue I guess they just didn't come back? Cos at first the lights did stay out, then they went on and you could see all the crew looking at eachother like what is going on?? I don't know if it is due to Caleb, but the other guys seemed alright and quite smiley really. Caleb was too at some points.... hm is the guy bi-polar? Cos he was kind of all over the place He would be all smiley then all cranky then apologize for being cranky..... I can't hate though, they are so so so good live but tonight was just a weird experience. No Knocked Up no Black Thumbnail no Manhattan psh

No clue but whatever it was, it was obviously not planned.
And no explanation was given and it is kind of a shame cos it was such a good gig and everyone was happy but then everyone left kinda down. Cos EVERYONE in the place knew something was up.
I am interested to see what other people that were there thought about it.
I do feel bad about those people that travelled so far to see them! I mean I only came from Belgium which is about 2 hours drive, nothing bad at all.
But to come from Minnesota or Manchester.... eek. They were not happy campers.

is it true that caleb said about people only wanting to come to hear two songs?
if the cologne gig was great and the berlin and lux ones were too then i wouldnt say they've turned their back on everyone not from uk/us.
he came out pissed off in berlin too (said he "came out angry") but the crowd turned him around, he also said in berlin he had issues, in manchester he said on the 22nd he was having a shit day. at one point left the stage.
didnt seem right at the 02, so my guess is it is the sex somebody crowds. if it goes well then he seems to completely turn it around. only my observation but he seems to be waiting for the crowd to impress him

It's bad that someone didn't make an announcement when the lights came on. That does a lot to help with the crowd's reaction. A couple of years ago when they played Dublin the sound was so loud that tiles started falling from the venue roof. They had to leave the stage and Caleb kinda made a helpless gesture but nobody knew what was happening and they didn't come back. But because an announcement was made at least the audience knew it wasn't just the Kings being arsey. EDIT: I agree with AngieB, Caleb does have a tendency to wait for the crowd to impress him rather than the other way round...

He was really up and down about it really.
Um at the beginning he said he didnt think everyone was having a good time and that we should stand up (people were sitting in the stands but they were still clapping/chanting so its not like they were not into it). I gotta say it was VERY hot, he made a comment about that too and said we all had to make the best of it.
But every song got a good response, SOF and Use Somebody DID get the loudest cheers and he said something about us being a 'funny' audience. Right before SOF he said that if not everyone stood up for that one he would 'walk off'. But ofcourse everyone did stand up, then he said 'we think it's a stupid song' right after it.
But again, I didn't really think the crowd was that bad and the Americans behind me agreed so idk. They were always hollering and cheering and such so I am not sure what Caleb expects?
But then a little after he started apologizing for being crabby and he said that it's just that they are very perfectionist on themselves and that's why he tends to do it to other people too. But that he is so happy that we come out to see them and all that and they are the luckiest band around with the best fans in the world...
So he went very much between being crabby/apologizing/at times smiling all big and seemingly enjoying himself.....
The last songs they did were Cold Desert and Use Somebody and with both those songs everyone was really singing along and standing up.
Maybe one of them did get ill or something but then it is a shame no announcement was made cos now you just got 10000 people leaving and wondering.

lol maybe thats it. I am sorry to be a Debbie Downer. It's just that I went up there all by myself and I needed a little place to vent heh I still love this band they are brilliant. Tonight was just not the best experience a fan could have I suppose. I also find it a shame to hear everyone talking bad about them as I was leaving the venue. The Americans behind me were all going on about Caleb's ego getting too big and it made me It was a really unfortunate ending to an otherwise great gig.

Caleb has been saying alot recently about "not his type of people" being at gigs, which is fair seen as i get really angry at newer/louder/abnoxious fans.
but having said that it sounds like everyone was on good behaviour crowd wise, its such a dissapointment for people and i am truely sorry for anyone who travelled such a long way.
I hope you get some type of resolution, but im guessing that roosters back.eep/kinda yay

You're not being a downer, seems to me you've given a really neutral view of the show but you've got the right to be disappointed - I know I would be. But they're a funny ol' band, and every band is allowed to have off nights. It's just they're so damn professional and perfectionist that it's out of character for them to do something like this without good reason. I still marvel at the fact that they keep it together so well considering they've been on tour for more than a year now, pretty much non-stop. They amaze me, seriously! I'd be a total fuckin' raving lunatic by now if I were them! So I suppose Caleb's allowed a bit of bipolar behaviour

I love this band to pieces (obviously ) and I recently have become really annoyed with the whole "we're KOL fans but know 1/2 hit singles only" kinda people - I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, believe me I really did try but Caleb did write these songs, so he has to expect that people will turn up because of the popularity! I'd much rather go to a KOL gig with fans who actually know some of the back catalogue to an extent, but it's not going to happen. He needs to remember there are a majority in the crowd who do love their music as a whole. If that isn't the reason for what happened tonight and I'm way off my mark I will take it back regarding this gig, but I don't think it's a fair reason to cut a show short. Sorry Caleb
