Yeah their setlist was made for the 'big' audience.. bummer.. I hoped for classics.. But I was surprised that 'leb was so talkative.. Jared looked sick though.. not impressed at all.. And they did mess up a couple of times. yeah but they were blown' away by the audience.; Anne you were at front?

I was disappointed too I was just craaaving for Arizona sooo bad, and then bang their set was over. I still waited afterwards but they weren't coming back. @ Anne: Yeah, my part of the crowd, I was at the back a bit, wasn't too excited either. But I really didn't care haha, I sang as loudly as I could even if people stared. I even did the whole screaming part during charmer which pissed people even more off haha. But they seemed so... I don't know, not really excited. Or tired or even bored. Sometimes I even thought they were a bit arrogant. And what the hell with Caleb's birthday; that was just weird. It was indeed a set for big crowds. Too bad But dang, closer sounded pretty fucking awesome live!

It must all depend on what one is expecting.... cos all the other people I have talked to said they were great and one of the biggest hits (crowd apparently loved them).
Also the clips I saw, Caleb was very smiley and all the guys seem happy. In the press they get praised too as one of the highlights of the festival and one of the biggest crowd pleasers.
Different perspectives or expectations maybe? I dunno.

i don't know what to think about taking milk out of that set...they're actually making their older fans a lil angry by taking out all of the oldies but goldies!

They ended with Black Thumbnail.. witch I found WEIRD! They used to open with that one! The last seven shows I've been at they've ended with Black Thumbnail. It seems like a given now. Personally I think it's their best song to end with so I hope they continue with it All these not so good reviews coming in from recent shows makes me sad I'm praying they'll be back on form for Oxegen on Saturday.

Different perspectives or expectations maybe? I dunno. Yeah, you're maybe right. This was the fourth time I saw them, and all of their previous concerts were AMAZING. That's why I had pretty high expectations for this one. Every time I went to see them, I had butterflies and goosebumps. Their concerts are magical. This last concert, I didn't feel anything. No magic, no sparks. It's my own opinion. I know a lot of people who did like it. I guess you have to know how they used to be to understand why the 'new' Kings are a bit of a let down. I don't blame the people who only came to see them for their hit songs though. I did the same with Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party. I think I just stood on the wrong side of the audience, where people weren't enjoying themselves. Anne! Such a shame you didn't enjoy the show much. But to be honest, I haven't enjoyed the last 3 this month anywhere near as much as any of the shows I've seen before. They seem to have lost their spark a bit, I think due to being tired of touring. They really need to take a break! A long one! For our sakes as well as theirs. I payed a disgusting amount of money for those 3 shows put together 'cause I bought 2 of the tickets off ebay, and I don't feel like it was totally worth it But like you said, I still love them, and don't blame them for doing some shows that aren't as good as usual, at least they're trying. In terms of the setlist, to be fair to them this is the OBTN tour so they have every right to play more songs from that album than the others. Just a shame I don't get a kick out of hearing 90% of the songs on it live!

^^^ Have to agree with you Sorrell. My last three shows were Arizona, San Fran and Manchester. The two American ones were awesome but the Manchester one, for some reason, was my least favourite KOL show ever. I had something to do with the fan girl/SOF crowd but it could also be my own fault for going to so many shows. I adore them, always will but I'm kinda glad I won't be seeing them until October after this weekend. I really hope they take at least a year out after this tour.

Uhu it's all about perspective.. This was my 5the time I saw them.. And Ok, I expected more of it -- setlist wise.. I think most people liked it cause they played lots of hits.. But all by all it was an ok show.. Caleb really seemed to enjoy it.. Let's just hope that they start playing more 'oldies' on their own shows.. Cause I can understand they want to attrack as much people as they can on festivals by playin' newer songs just hope they won't forget our - oldies - true die hard fans

It was the first time I saw them with the purpose to see them. 2 years ago I was standing there to see Pearl Jam. But I was soooold. If they call Eddie Vedder on stage, I can not do anything else but love them But I consider this the first real show for me. I loved it, but I cannot compare, and I do understand the 'missing some magic'. Like I said, they looked a bit hung over. Belgian beer, you have to be used to it... But at the end Caleb seemed happy... As for the crowd: I was also standing in the 3th area I guess. Lots of horny 16 years old I guess... But me and my two friends also were the only ones singing along very loud with all the songs. And we also did the screaming thing with Charmer haha. I made two guys deaf that were standing before me. We had the best time. But I am still waiting for a REAL kings of leon concert in Belgium, in an arena, NOT a festival!! I had a board with TRANI on it... that didn't really help And no King of the rodeo.... Let the good times roll was on my mind the entire time !!!! And we had a board with 'Your socks are on fire', which I thought was hilarious!!!

You're never going to get a totally Kings of Leon fan based crowd at a festival like you would at one of their shows, so lots of people would only know the hits and of course they are going to play more of those songs to keep the majority of the crowd happy. Could you imagine the uproar if they only played 3 songs off OBTN and all the rest was from the first albums. That would kill their popularity.
I think a lot of people on this forum have almost been over exposed to the band. We read about them everyday and look at pictures and talk to each other. Then we go to loads of gigs on every tour. After a while, the excitement goes from the shows and we feel disappointed and let down because they didn't play the one song we wanted to hear. I know after 20 gigs, I'm happy to take a rest and not see them until their next tour. I'm not even going to go to any of the festivals this year. By the next album, I'm going to be gagging to see them again and probably really want to hear that oldie "Sex no Fire"!

Manchester was show number 22, I have two more to go this year and after that I need a break. A break is as good as a rest some say! I adore seeing them live but I'm realising gig after gig after gig in a short space of time can turn you off. Not off the band but I guess what I'm trying to say is the major excitment tends to wear off.

^^ yep, I agree. I've totally held off seeing them much this year for that reason. It felt weird not being at the London 02 gigs, but I got over it and I think I made the right decision. The Kings don't do much to vary their shows, and I don't EVER want KOL concerts to become mundane or disappointing to me.

^^^ During the Manchester show two weeks ago I stood there at one point, can't remember during which song, and looked at the four guys and said to myself: I'm not enjoying this as much as I should be I'm actually glad I realised it though.

Yeah, better to acknowledge it and pull back a bit before it has the chance to get sour.

I don't understand how people can stilllll be upset when they don't hear KOTR. I mean when was the last time they played that?? It's like...they haven't played KOTR at any other show this year but when they don't play it at such-and-such place it's a huge disappointment. I don't know. I guess I'm personally just past the whole 'hope and pray for this song and cry when I don't get it' because let's face it, chances are slim that they'll add it if they haven't yet. And when you go into it expecting something, you kind of lose sight of the fun you could have while you're longing to hear a certain song the whole time. The way I see it, don't set your sights too high and you have nothing to lose. If they happen to play what you want to hear, then freakin awesome BTW, please don't take offense to this, these are just some thoughts I had while reading through this thread!

Yea but when was the last time they played RML up until the last few weeks? It's natural to hope they'll play a song like KOTR because it has been in their sets before. I'm always hoping for Holy Roller, which is unrealistic I guess but KOTR is 100 times more likely to be played compared to some others.

Of course it's natural to WANT a song to be played, I wanted Arizona, I understand that. It just confuses me when people are so completely shocked and upset when an obscure (which KOTR is at this point) song isn't played. It's like...unless you got some sort of tip-off that it would be in the set, how can you just expect it and then be mad when it doesn't happen? [and this isn't meant to be a generalization, I know that there are plenty of people who wish for a song because they love it but don't have any sort of expectations.]
Just thoughts.
