I think they play most songs slower live. It makes things like My Party, Molly's Chambers, Wasted Time... almost annoying  It's the only bad thing about KOL live. When I saw them last year, almost every song was noticably slower. ROCK IT UP BOYS!  xxx |

i havn't read all this thread but what struck me is that trani must be a pretty difficult song for them to play these days cause i always felt it needed to be played when fcked up to be played correctly. changing it's tempo to encourage a different emotional spin on it is perhaps pointless? cause it's so locked up and of a time that i wonder if they can carry it with them, you know, maybe they shouldn't? like it's so intense and fraught you shouldn't really touch it cause it might explode in yr face and get very cross and not listen to you when you try and play it. trani is cross with you kol! swim away. swim awayyyyy. leave it be i dunno it's a tricky one. didn't they leave it out of their setlist for like ages? and then it came back and everyone was really happy? uhm. i think i sorta remember reading something about that. i think they should leave it be. it doesn't want to be here today i don't think. i don't know if it belongs. yeah thinking about it it does belong but only when played as previously described. i dunno i've bloody confused myself now! swim awayyyyyyyy *puts finding nemo in dvd player and pretends to be the shark, bruce*
the other stuff i think of the molly situation (lol yeah there is one! a molly situation) where they jst enjoy fcking around with their songs. i like that! why not.

I'm confused, how do some of KOLs greatest songs become annoying when they're played slower!! It doesnt bother me at all, mainly because they've said the older songs are harder to play live for a lengthy show so the options seem to be
a) Speed all the tunes up to album tempo and play shorter shows
or
b) Slightly slow the tempo of some songs and play longer shows

yeah i remember them saying they used to get boo'ed cause their shows wern't long enough even though they played twice as many songs as other bands. who knows maybe its summat to do with sound quality or linking the songs together etc

in Razz' defence i do see where she's coming from and i can also see how it would be difficult to play the older songs like how they are on the records (please don't get any wider kol) with the longer sets they're doing these days. perhaps they should get caleb to talk more whilst the band has a dying sess behind him or costume changes?

ive noticed they slow mollys chambers right down as well...
i think it could be to pad out the set but some performances it probably happens by accident i.e. if nathan starts a song like taper jean girl, and hes slower than usual the rest of the band and therefore the rest of the song have to go along with it

I think it's interesting to hear songs played differently live, though there are some songs that I definitely prefer faster as recorded.
Maybe there's just a different energy in the band these days. Things don't stay the same, do they.
Anyone who boos kol doesn't deserve to be there.

I get the whole thing about slowing songs down to fill the time but surely they have enough songs now? I mean, itunes tells me all my KOL music comes to something like 3 hours (no remixes). Obviously they can't play for that long or do all the songs but they have enough to fill the time right? So maybe they just prefer playing them that way?
On the other hand it can be interesting to hear songs different live.
