^^ That's exactly what I'm talking about. I call Soft my happy song, when I'm feeling blue, I stick it on and within moments I have a dopey grin on my face.

songs that make me well up with tears: knocked up trani true love way
and then i play them for people and i'm like, "did you hear the car door slam in the background?!?" or, "right now if they were playing it live, jared would scream!!" and they just look at me like they completely don't get it. and they don't. so i go home and listen to it alone, where it can really be appreciated...

This is gonna sound really cheesy, but ah well! I got it with True Love Way, when Caleb sings "you don't say, you just hold your breath, so I can't touch what I haven't yet" And I literally held my breath. Like it took my breath away. Katie, that isn't cheesy at all. I love that line in the song, there's something about the way he sings it that makes me go all soft inside. I also love "girl you're wanted like a wanted man, with your smart mouth and your killer hand". I die a little each time I hear it. I think it's a beautiful thing when music moves you. Whether it be in a sad or happy way. There's a good few KOL songs that I connect with. Trunk is incredibly special to me, but the one that gets me every time is Use Somebody. It just felt so right, and summed up how I was feeling during the time I first heard it. Even now that the personal stuff that was dragging me down is done, I still get emotional when I listen to it. So maybe I haven't resolved my personal stuff after all then. Music is a great healer. It's certainly gotten me through some dark times. There's a couple of live versions of True Love Way, where Caleb sings up then down at "killer hand" and I just melt everytime I listen to it. I love when music takes you back to the way you felt when you listened to it before. Like sometimes I'll listen to a song, and then all of a sudden just get what Caleb was trying to say. That's what happened with True Love Way. Eden I'm Karma'ing you up for that

Eden, kudos to you for that ^^.
Music is probably the most important thing in my life; it's overwhelming how intensely it can affect your emotions.
When I'm feeling shit, or want to just rock out, I put ASH on replay; it's my go-to, for sure.
I hope one of the guys will read this thread and realize how important their music is and what it does for us!

just off the top of my head, the three songs that stop me in my tracks EVERYTIME are Milk, Knocked Up and Cold Desert.
Milk is one of the songs that I fell in love with when i started listening to them in '05 and has lots of memories for me. I love it so much, and the live version from Werchter '08 is amaZING. It's kinda funny when I first heard it (and for awhile after to be honest) I thought Caleb was singing 'Soul TV.' Anywho, it's such a sad and honest song.
When I first heard Knocked Up, I was like 'holy shit'. I think it's such a romantic song, and a true romantic song at that. 'always mad and usually drunk, but i love her like no other' perfection. I made a friend listen to it and I told her I thought it was the most romantic song ever, and she was just like 'ok.' the idea of running away with your lover and not caring about anyone else is so captivating.
Then of course is Cold Desert. I jack my volume up everytime and sing along at the top of my lungs. I always think about what Caleb said in the Home Movies that the lyrics just came out of him [intoxicated of course] and that only the first verse was written before recording. It makes it all the more poignant. Truly an effing wonderful song.
I could listen to these three songs nonstop all day, everyday.

I will never forget the first time I heard Use Somebody on youtube in August, and then fully in ocboter, I almost cried both times. I wish it still made me feel like that...

Four Kicks is doing that to me right now. With four albums to pick from....those moments are always going to poke you between the eyes. Cold Desert, live last night in Nottm....I swear I had a major spiritual awakening - at the end, I couldn't clap, whoop, holler, move, breathe....just had to stuff my scarf in my mouth to stop myself from bawling! Oh happy day although, I'm coming down now, and it ain't good!

I hate it when you first hear a song and it gives you this incredible feeling, so you listen to it over and over..then the feeling goes away

I feel like this with On Call, on some XFM thing where Caleb went through each song on BOTT and talked about them he said how On Call is about being there for yourself, and whenever I'm feeling shitty I listen to it and it just makes me happy, like there's no point to being sad, I gotta pick myself up. Sorry for the super run-on sentence.
