With their names already popping up on the best of 2008 lists, it recently came to me that the boys could very will win or be nominated for their 1st Grammy award, if not for 'Only by the Night' as an album then definitely for Sex on Fire..what do you all think? Is it too soon to tell?

I would love it if they were - just because the US needs to give them recognition.. its no secret the UK was the first to really get into them. I hope they get nominated! theres so much crap in the US, a quality band deserves it!
I would've loved to see them nominated for something besides OBTN, cause i love their other albums wayy more. Nevertheless, i would be stoked if they were!!

I'd love it, but I don't see it happening. After all, Sex on Fire, as "big" as it may appear to have been in the States, wasn't really even that big in the bigger scheme of things. Their album may have debut top 5, but it fell like to 20th the next week, so I really don't see it happening, but I'd love it, and if they do get nominated, I'll probably start crying like an idiot.

I agree, I think those of us that are from America know that, realistically, it most likely won't happen There are too many fools here who are so close-minded and unwilling to step outside their comfort zones that all they feel comfortable listening to is Rihanna and Kanye West

*likes Kanye West* Sorry, but he's good. Rihanna can't sing worth anything. The Kings just haven't made it yet over here, even though everyone keeps saying they have. Until I start seeing their CDs in places like Walmart and Target, they are still small-town.

..I agree about them not being big here yet.
I have never heard them on the radio or seen them on TV, therefore there are not big. I don't even really see them elevating all that much, like most of the stories say. MSG will probably change that though.
This may sound stupid, but will it be televised? Heh probably not.

Well, they might make a DVD about it, but televised? I don't think so. Ooo, that would be kickass though, wouldn't it?

I guess I'm thinking of the Rockefeller Center on Good Morning America...
even though they're very clearly different

i dont think fan base has anything to do with winning a grammy. The Associate and Voting Recording Academy votes.
take for instance, the white stripes, won a grammy when they were still pretty much an underground band.
i think a nomination is a great possibility

You have a point, but I think that at least a decent amount of media recognition alerts those who do vote..and I've seen little to none concerning the Kings..
but hey anything's possible.

Yeah, I know who votes, and I do know that they are more of a critical band over here than a commercial one, but I just don't see it happening. And when the White Stripes won, they had been playing that album all over the place. But, anything is possible. This is the same group of people that gave Jethro Tull the Heavy Metal grammy instead of Metallica.
