Ok I am not so angry right now, but I still felt the show was bad and it wasn't all Kings, but a lot was.
First off, I would like to replicate the quote as best as I can:
"When I woke up this morning I thought man I really don't want to play a concert, but you guys look good from up here." - Caleb
There was a real lack of effort from every member. This was my fourth show and this one was just far worse then the rest. Something I must say is that I was in the front row, I waited hours in the cold to see them, I was a fan before the show, but during the show I couldn't help to feel what so many had said before "maybe they sold out." I saw there faces (being in the front row) and they made faces to each other like "god I don't want to be here." During crawl, I couldn't even hear matts lead at all there was next to no sound coming from his equipment. Calebs vocals were bad and they just weren't that good.
There was a big roar during sex on fire, I had the impression that was the only song that 70 percent of the crowd knew and there was crowd surfing like never before. It was every minute someone was landing infront of me. Its as if the show wasn't entertaining them enough.
I was so unimpressed that I had to actually force my way out, because I was in the front row, I could just walk out. I really wanted to leave.
I want to be fair, I saw some bad ass shows this year. I saw My morning jacket play with no opening band and play like 30 songs. I saw The Raconteurs rock my shorts off. I guess being there I realized that this band didn't compare at all. That they weren't even half as good. I went to one My morning jacket show and I learned what is was like to be appreciated by a band, where they actually like there fans. They asked to have the barricade up to the stage, Jim came up to the crowd and even gave me an autograph after the show. There is nothing fan friendly thing about KOL and they just come off like assholes who don't care about being there.

Aw dayoldblues thats terrible sad, you sound really disappointed!! I'm not even going to try and defend the boys cause i wasn't there, i just really hope it was another off night and not as you say a sign of their antipathy towards fans or a waning of their joy at having one of the best jobs in the whole fucking world!

yeah this doesnt sound good at all. Although part of me isnt surprised. Ive heard stuff like this about them before. They seem to get mood swings quite easily or something. Like if they arent in a really good mood before they go on, it will show in the performance. I cant believe they are being like this in america though. I mean they have been banging on about being appreciated in their home country, well they should try and give abit more to the crowd, even if they dont feel like it, cause thats the only way they will be appreciated and loved. What do they expect if they are gonna act like that? I feel like i sound really horrible, but im just praying to god they arent like this when i see them in december, cause its the last show, end of the tour and they will be tired. But it will really upset me if they act like meanies! So i hope they dont! And dayoldblues, i have heard nothing but good stuff about my morning jacket, so its funny u mention that! Some of my friends have been to see them and said they were incredible. And will spend hours playing a set, and really interact with a crowd and all that. I really want to go to a my morning jacket show, so i think i will. I hear nothing but good reviews!

I can vouch for MMJ being an incredible live band, so I'm with you on that. It's sad that KOL weren't up to par last night and it sounds really disappointing. It's weird that all of them get so moody and down and have bad nights like that. I'm not going to try to defend them either I'm just trying to figure out why it is that they don't like their jobs sometimes.

i think i hate hearing stuff like this about them because we have all seen the home movies and all that kinda stuff and we know how lovely they can be, so we want them to be like that all the time.
But i know everyone has off days and all that, i guess its just its not the crowds fault they have had a bad day, and if you have paid good money to go to a show, you dont wana feel like they dont want to be there. Oh i dunno, im just gonna put it down to, they had a bad day.

Yes, see My morning jacket, because they not only have great songs, but are awesome to there fans. They came out after there show to see there fans, gave people hugs. (which i haven't heard of KOL doing much of) Jim James came up to the crowd tons of times during the show. You had a feeling MMJ wanted to be close to there fans and KOL not so much. It just wasn't a good show if you had seen KOL before. There getting big in america and not in a good way. Not in a way were people appreciate there music, but in a sell out drunk kind of way. If that makes any sense. Just kids who like them who listen to all the other shitty bands on the radio. Its sad, but if you treat your fans shitty you start to get shitty fans. I'm over it, but I won't go to another show and I definetly lost a lot of my respect and love of the band.
The whigs however, talked to me and even personally handed me there set list. I really hope they will get the respect they deserve in the future.
We are scientist were good. Not my cup of tea, but I enjoyed them for what they were. I just think that when you go to a show you want to enjoy the music for what it is. I didn't like how I had guards reaching over my head to grab some one whos seconds aways from kicking my head off. When I've seen good bands, there was no need to smash the hell out of each other. I don't mind people jumping around and getting excited, but theres a limit and it got crossed in detroit.
The show sucked 75 percent kings 25 percent "sex on fire" fans

Sorry to hear that you were left dissapointed. I've never had that experience but I guess The kings world is so hectic and crazy right now in a way it has never been before that its getting abit much for them and the fans. Not to mention the 'sex on fire fans' coming along and ruining it for the people who were really looking forward to it for THE WHOLE set and not just that song.

Aw man. I'm seriously hoping they aren't like that in December at Glasgow. I've been looking forward to the show for ages, and I know to them,it's probably just another show since they're playing shows all the time, but this is only the 2nd time seeing them for me. They've got to remember that although they play shows all the time, a lot of fans hardly get to see them.

Ok I was at the show last night and I absolutely loved it. It seems we went to a different show from one another! It was my first show and I was also in the balcony...but it's too bad you left! I don't know what you are talking about everyone just loving "sex on fire" The whole theater was singing along to every song! Caleb did not even sing the chorus on "Four Kicks" because the crowd was singing it so loud. Caleb did say that when he woke up he wasn't feeling so good and didn't feel like playing the show, but then he said "but I'm having a really good time, you guys are great!" He also called the crowd "phenomenal." I have to admit when they first went off stage i was a little disappointed because I thought it was kind of a shorter show, but they came out for the encore and played 4 more songs! I think they played longer than they had planned because the crowd was going so crazy. I had an EXCELLENT time, and not to attack you but I can't believe you call yourself a fan when would leave the kings of leon when you were in the same room with them!

I was there too, and I thought it was amazing besides all the drunk people . He was really nice and smiled through the whole thing. After the show they even went out and signed things for the fans that were waiting, which again they were all really nice so I don't get how they arn't fan friendly. I thought all the bands did a really good job and after I also got to speak with the whigs. It was a great show, even if caleb didn't want to be there or not. He did make a effort though and thats good enough for me, these are normal guys just like everyone else. You can't believe they are supernatural, they do get sick sometimes and he made a effort to be there.

Ah, I know I wasn't there but it sounds like it was personal opinion as to whether they played up to standard or not? But that's cool

Hmm...I can't make a real statement on the actual show. It's easy for us to sit back and go "why aren't they happy all the time; they're in a rock band", but we don't really know the behind the scenes. What may seem like the "greatest job on the planet" requires strength and energy nearly all the time. You have to always be "on", otherwise people get on your case. I'll pass judgment when I get home after the show tomorrow. If they're kinda down, I'll report it. If they're on fire, I'll report it. Then again, I might be blown away, and the person next to me might want to just walk out, so you never really know. I just hope they know that there are people out there who do want to see them and look forward to getting away from their lives for a moment just to see them.

Ok, I got carried away. I left mad and posted this out of anger. I guess I grew out of this band and they went a different direction. I'm a blues guy and it breaks my heart to see them tred so far away from it. I will say the show wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good from a musical stand point. They weren't on. I know the band can play better and put more into it then they did. And thats what I will leave it at. I feel sad about it because I met some cool people at the show and had an ok time before the show even. I also appreciate a lot of people on here. People have sent me songs and magazines that I could of never got and for that I greatful.

Oh wow, I was really surprised to see your review, Dayoldblues. I was too far away to see the looks they gave eachother on stage, but it seemed to me like they were having a great time up there! True, Caleb did say he originally didn't want to play but now he did (gee, thanks Caleb ), but other than that I thought it was a great show, even though I was a little disappointed in the set list (I feel the same way as you do about their new stuff, Dayoldblues.) But I knew going in what their setlist was going to be so I was prepared!! I also thought the crowd was great - people were singing to all the songs - both old and new, and they were crowd-surfing like crazy!! I wish you would have stayed around because they closed the show with Black Thumbnail and it was AMAZING!!! I think Caleb said some really nice things about the crowd at the end too.....but I can't remember what they were. (something about a really hot, older lady up in the balcony???) As for the Whigs, we missed them becaues we were busy drinking in the bar next door We met some really nice people that night and had a great time. Sidenote: On the way to the show we got hit up by a toothless, homeless lady asking for change. My husband mistakenly called her "sir". Never, ever call a toothless, homeless lady a "sir" - they get very offended and will cuss you out.
