Personally, I think the next album is gonna really rock. I think they will end up going back to at least the because of the times type of sound. I think this album is more of a Can we make it big if we wanted to? type of album for them. Who knows.

I've recently read in an interview with Caleb that he thinks that although only by the night has had the most mixed reviews of all the albums, he says he does'nt mind because its the album they have had the most success with. That's so shitty of him.

yeah they did rush it.....but even when they rush it they do good haha I pretty much agree with you there, if this is what they are capable of when they rush an album, whats the next one gonna be like? I think they may go back to a more rocking album for the 5th one *hopes*

I was thinking about this as i listened more and more to the album and i think that yeah it will get the most success and find them new fans but the stuff is so different that if those new 'fans' then go and look up the back catalogue i can't imagine that they will be as enamoured (spl) with say Y&YM or even ASH as we all are. They might like some stuff of BOTT but other wise..... to stick with a band as stalwartly as we all do you have to like everything they do. Oppositely though i think some die hard fans of old are maybe a bit irritated by the new direction .. swings and roundabouts...

i just think they shouldn't have rushed this album like they did They haven't rushed this album anymore than their others. Every album they do comes together quickly, songwriting-wise. The reason it took so long for BOTT to come out was because of the record company, not KOL. They had the whole thing recorded more than a year before it was released.

It's obvious that for the most part, people are quite gutted on first impressions of the album, especially from fans who have followed them from the beginning.
I will have to reserve judgment on the album for now. Apart from the likes of Closer, Crawl, Sex on Fire, Be Somebody and Manhattan, since it's release I have listened to the album once! From someone who has loved this band since 2003, that pretty much speaks volumes itself. Every other Kings Album, I have pretty much listened to non-stop since the day I bought it and it's actually surprised me, the little effort I have made to actually sit down and listen.
Don't get me wrong there are some gems on "Only by the night", but for the most part, it just feels like background music and I'm going to find it really difficult to find any kind of affection for the rest of this album. I'm just hoping that after a few more listens I can come back on here and feel completely different.

I'm just hoping that after a few more listens I can come back on here and feel completely different. I felt the same when I first bought it. I put it on in my car and apart from a couple of songs, crawl, sex on fire, manhattan, I never really listened it was just playing. I think I was put off a bit at first because it was so different than the other 3. I mean I still have youth and young manhood playing none stop, it hasn't left my cd player for as long as I can remember. But after I'd had 'only by the night' playing a few times in my car I did actually start to listen and now I do love it, but in a different way to the others. I think part of the reason its hard to listen to at first is because its so obviously different than the other 3 that people don't want to be dissapointed by it.
