although the review is a bit childish like JamiroFan said i.e. the same old introduction as sons of a preacher (this is their fourth album can we please get over that fact!!) I doubt that will ever be something people will stop mentioning. Eisley have the same problem with the same comments being brought up or being asked the same questions. "So you're all family? Blah blah blah..." Those questions/comments, no matter how much they are asked/mentioned, will never go away. Sadly.

People! I have been a KOL fan since the beginning, however I feel this review was spot on. You might not want to hear this, but once you start to open up and come completely out of your 'kings of leon euphoria' you will begin to realize that this album is good, yet not great. In fact I would call it average, and I am one of their biggest fans. Just because someone else doesn’t like the album this does not give you the right to bash to reviewer. It's a free world, and people have their own opinions. Just as if, let’s say one of you were to become a critic for a world-wide famous music magazine, cough RS, you would probably give this a 4 or 4.5/5 just because you are a fan... The album is a rushed effort. The band admitted it themselves when they said they would release an album if they got the Glastonbury gig... The band is definitely going in a new direction, which kind of upsets me, yet at the same time it shows me that they are widening their musical spectrum. My only beef with this transition is that they rushed into it way too fast. I feel if they would have waited another year to release their next album, it would have been an overall better production. I will still go to their shows, and I will still be fan, however this album only has a few keepers on it.... Go ahead and roll your eyes now, however one day they will release an album that you are not fond of and have the same feelings as I am having now... Trust me. Every GREAT (i emphasize this word because they will be GREAT) band has an album like this. Lets just hope the boys take some much needed time off before they release their next album. Well said.

Some of the songs are starting to grow on me but i hope that their next album is more rock and roll with obtuse lyrics sort of like the first two albums but still moving forward if that makes sense. i think OBTN is a blatent attempt to be more mainstream, its obvious. And also i'm one of those people who wanted to keep KOL to myself rather than having a bigger audience etc. But i've been thinking lately that the only bands or artists that anyone remebers are those that became legends by gaining a wider audience (and the only way KOL will do this is by releasing a record like OBTN) and then in like 30 years we can show photos that we personally got from early KOL gigs to our kids and say look i was the biggest fan of the coolest band ever so shut up and go clean your room haha does anyone know where i'm coming from?

I kind of agree with Mookie, i definately dont think this album is their best however it is not a bad album, i also agree with comments that every band has a mediocre/mainstream album, but lets face it they will be around for a long time so we have plenty of albums to look forward to that are hopefully more rocking! P.S im not dissing the album i like it but its just not my favourite

To be fair... has everyone who's commented on this thread listened to every single song on the album over and over so that each song has had a chance to grow on them?? It's not even out yet. (Although i do completely agree with your point Mookie on the 'kings of leon euphoria' preventing people from looking at things subjectively and the quick transition.. pretty much most of your points i do agree with).

I mentioned this in another thread, but don't you think the sign of a great album/song is that you don't have to listen to it over and over again for it to grow on you? Shouldn't it be that you hear it and immediately love it so much that you want to play it over and over again?

although the review is a bit childish like JamiroFan said i.e. the same old introduction as sons of a preacher (this is their fourth album can we please get over that fact!!) and the Allman brothers comparison (payed out) i think he is right about OBTN being basically a BOTT ver. 2.0. Besides this isn't their first 3 stars they've received, ASH got a 3.5 stars and i think that album is way better than OBTN. Sorry but you cannot have the guitar in Revelry and then dismiss comparisons to the Allman Bros. As far as the review goes, I think it's spot on. It's a poorer review than their earlier albums because the reviewer thinks it's not as good as their previous albums, and I agree. You have to remember that albums and musicians are like movies and actors. You can think that an actor is superb and that they put out tons of great movies but every now and then they're in a bad movie or they're bad in a movie. It's not like people don't like the actor anymore, they're just not so into the movie. Kings of Leon are still my second favorite band, I just think that only about 1/3 of the songs on OBTN are worth listening to.

I don't think that's a very fair comment. By that logic, I should buy all the Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys albums and listen to them again and again until I like them and if I don't like them after 20, 50, 100 listens, I should keep listening until I do. I understand that a song won't necessarily hit you on the first listen but after 4 or 5 listens, if there isn't a whole lot that grabs you it may be because there isn't a whole lot in the song to grab.

No you are completely misinterpreting my comment. Some people have only heard a few of their songs, not the whole album, or listened to the album whilst reading other people's comments like this thread. In no way am i suggesting people to listen to the album 100 times in one go, and carry on listening until they like it, that's a ridiculous statement and also overrides the right for a person to have their own opinion.
Anyway, back to the topic, at this current point in time, OBTN is definitely my least favourite album. I loved the other 3 because i would be torn between all three albums, and when people asked which was my favourite, i would find it very hard to reply. That's not the case with OBTN sadly.

Hello again, To dispel any further "angry discussion" about whom is the best guitarist, melodic historical guitar riffwise, it's a tie between Jimmy Page & Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) & as for guitar playing prowess, it's a 3 way tie between Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix & Eddie Van Halen. In regards to the RS KOL spread from 04, that was the first indicator that the Kings had taken the RCA image cronies advice to drop the 'taches N' beards, burn their dungarees/rock band T-Shirts and pretend to be "rock n roll sophisticated". And god, what a bad move that was.... Sincerely, ~JamiroFan2000~ I suppose melodic guitar playing is purely opinion. I myself am a huge fan of Mark Knopfler. But, as a guitar player myself, Jimi is not in the same league as Eddie or Stevie, and Stevie is probably better than Eddie technically. None of them hold a candle to Joe Satriani or Steve Vai, though.

Led Zep=Most overated band of all time. How the hell are Zeppelin the most overrated band of all time? How often do you hear 16 year olds driving around bumping Dyer Maker? Only people who generally listen to good music even know who Zeppelin is.
