I think it's some kind of explosion that occurs on the sun. It happens all the time but she still gets freaked out by them!
This is kind of funny too: When Y2K was coming, she stocked up our basement with freeze-dried food and water barrels because she thought that was going to be the end of the world. She also gave us a propane cooker and cake mix. I told her, "If it's the end of the world I ain't gonna be baking cakes....I'm going to get drunk...where's the booze?" She didn't think that was funny.

ha ha ha ha ha. If there was no more world, I don't think there would be any use for freeze dried food. Let alone cake. Although I'd like that to be the way I go. Stuffing my face with Victoria Sponge. You Mum sounds hilarious.
p.s I thought sun spots might be the American for freckles!

2012 marks the end of Christianity. Some believe this will also end the world, because it will plunge into chaos.

This is a really interesting thread! The ad at the top of the page sometimes tells me that the world will end on Dec 12 2012 (not now though, now its telling me that I can chat with single girls for free ) I can see how there may seem to be heaps of evidence for this date, but my 2 cents is that it's not true... Then again, I have a very low paranormal belief (I <3 science!) But yea, I think that, although the end of the world is inevitable (stars don't last forever, in a few thousand years the sun will implode), I personally don't think we can ever predict what when this will be. People like numerical sequences / patterns, and so the end of the world has commonly been predicted for times like 21:12 21/12 2112 (seems obvious, but they do it on the georgian / mayan calenders then translate it to our one). But hey, if this inspires Jared to encourage the band to make heaps more music before they all meet some sticky end, then bring on Armageddon edit: oops I didn't realise how belatedly I have come into the argument! No wonder I was getting confused at all the references to '4 years' on the first page, I just thought everyone was really bad at maths

Haha, I really don't think that the world is going to end 12-21-2012. No offense though to those who believe in it, I respect yall's and Jared's opinions. I watched this movie called '2012: Doomsday' because I know someone who is related to one of the actors, and it was a pretty bad movie and didn't convince me at all. It actually made me less convinced. My friends and I always joke about it though and talk about all that we are going to do before the world ends, like jumping out of helicopters. I'm going to party on that day just because I think it might be fun to pretend to be paranoid on that day and live that day to the fullest. The Mayan's hands probably got tired of making calenders, so they stopped, haha. Edit: I think there is a movie coming out in November with the same exact name as the one I saw. It actually looks good. The one I saw was in 2008 and was so bad that it didn't even make it into the theaters, just went strait to DVD. Just wanted to clear that up. I watched this one >>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcC4KhJQUq0 Edit again: Now this looks awesome! www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyCCd8MCcZY

Oh wow!!! Jared is so cool LOL I didnt realize he was that deep! I learned about this 2012 thing a few years ago. There are dozens of books on it. And i've seen documentaries about it on tv. It could convince almost anyone, if you really look at the facts. As of now though, i'm still on the fence only because I want to believe in a lot of things and a lot of them contradict each other so it's hard to say, I guess we'll find out in 3 years though!

that's so interesting that jared has looked into the whole mayan prophecy of things. to me, that doesn't make him strange but more cultured you know what i mean? 100% agreed! I'm really into that kinda stuff and i know this sounds bad but i almost feel more evolved than most people because all alot of them care about is being afraid of everything and living by manmade rules and judging people (although yes i realize i kinda did that too) but i'm not saying theyre bad people, i really wish everyone was on the same level, i dont like us being so different. I'm unsure about the Bible though, it seems like the more I learn and the more i research, the less I believe in it, but i'm not saying it's all lies.

This is what I think, I might be wrong but this is my take on their religious status. In that interview with Caleb and Jared when they were talking about the BOTT Conference, they said that they still feared God and that they didn't talk about it that much, that they knew they weren't going to be like they are now for the rest of their lives. And that they just hoped to stay safe until then. Well, considering their upbringing, I'm pretty sure they are all Christians which means that by them saying that, they know they aren't living their lives to glorify God right now. Which is a dangerous place to be because if you are a Christian and you aren't living they way you should be, God can jerk you out of this world in a second if he wants to. That's why they said they hoped they would stay safe. Because they know they aren't living a christian life right now and they hope to stay safe until they get back to that. Once a Christian always a Christian. Once God is in you, he's there forever, there's no taking him out. You can push him away but he's always there. So, I for one am interested in seeing what happens in their lives. I can say that I'm a christian and that's one reason why I was drawn to them in the first place because I knew they were as well. I love and pray for those boys all the time I dont believe that "once a christian you're always a christian" because I was raised Christian and now I couldnt be any more against it. I believe God is in everyone regardless of our religious beliefs because, well, if i go in any more detail i'll be changing the subject of this thread LOL

Haha, this is kinda funny to me. The first time I heard 2012 mentioned as being "the end of the world" was in an Incubus song called "A Certian Shade of Green". Then about three years ago I took a Mexican Art History class in college and one of the first things mentioned was the Mayan calendar and how there are no dates after December 24, 2012 A.D. Then I was reading an interview from another band I like, Envy on the Coast, where the lead singer (Ryan Hunter) said that he also believed that the end of the world would be in 2012. And now Jared! I don't necessarily think it will be the end of the world but maybe a fresh new begining for everyone. Maybe things will get better 'cause right now I don't think it can get any worse! But I'm a see it to believe it type of person, so I'm just gonna wait for that day and see what happens I LOVE Envy on the Coast!!! Wow it's so cool to find other fans of them cuz I sure don't know many!

But then again I rarely venture out of the Mattcave! I wanted to comment on the science vs. paranormal thing...isn't science just the study of Earth/Universe? I mean, science can't explain something that isnt of the Earth or our universe, right? I believe they are two different worlds, two planes of existence, and they are mutually exclusive. Although, they do make equipment that can measure energy that human eyes and ears cannot see or hear, so I think that's a good example of science and the paranormal working together!

Well for starters science (traditionally, and it all depends on on belief) doesn't allow for the existence of anything that isn't of the Earth/universe By paranormal I meant anything that cannot be rationally explained (ghosts, prophecy), and anything subjective that defies the rules of existence. Of course there are still things we don't, and probably won't ever, understand, but I guess I believe that there is ultimately a logical explanation for everything

2012 marks the end of Christianity!? HALLELUJAH!!! Praising God for the end of Christianity? Ironic. I take the opposing view. There's a lot that doesn't add up in this whole 2012 thing, and the internet in particular gives access to a lot of nonsense. Let's just say I won't be doing anything rash come December 2012. (well, not more than usual)
