Understandable.. However there is a difference between "Leaked songs" and "songs that have already been debuted".... I can understand if myslef, or someone else snuck a video of one of their studio sessions and then posted that up Youtube... But they are talking about songs that they have already debuted. LOL. Whats wrong with me posting footage of Manhattan and Crawl on Youtube for fans who were not fortunate enough to enoy the live experience I had?

I'm just flabbergasted that Matt was the one that was doing the talking, when was the last time that happened? and see what happens when he does. Next time they should let Jared do the talking as usual hahaha haha yep, he's gonna be banned from interviews for another 3 or 4 years now.

I think Matthew has a point as an atrist you want to let people enjoy the music but at the same time you kind of need to make a profit as it is his job eh.. but personally im waiting to rip off the studio version of the album rather than any live recordings LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's true...the saddest part about this whole thing is that matt was the one saying negative things against the fans...it's not like we're posting videos that we recorded of them eating or doing something private...it's when they perform their freaking songs man!

I KNOW that bootlegging is wrong, but I do it anyway...I mean, I'll be honest. Everything that I've ever bootlegged I went out and bought...unless it's something I can't get. I see where they are coming from. Maybe they want to see people's reactions to the new songs without them already knowing the words? I dunno, I thought seeing a fan already knowing all the words to your songs would be flattering. That's just me, I guess. I do stand by what one person wrote on the NME comments about if they didn't want anyone bootlegging their stuff then wait until the new album is out. Just seems kinda silly to me. I guess because no matter what I know I'm gonna go and buy their stuff...I guess that was going out more towards the people who wouldn't buy their stuff and just get it for free?
Good discussion, nonetheless. I like to see how others feel about this.

woooaaaaw slightly negative view of matt there lol i think i can understand how they would feel seeing as its something that they worked hard on and tried their best at and then for someone to come along and rip them off, i know i would be pissed off at it, but its the same with most bands isnt it,

There's nothing wrong with you posted Manhattan or Crawl. As I said before, they played them in glastonbury even though the BBC ask them not to. They knew it would be broadcast. And the rip we got from Manhattan at Glasto comes from the radio right ? So they allowed the radio to spin the tune. Same with the Werchter broadcast. They allowed it and they played Crawl so they knew it would be on the internet. They just don't want MORE songs to be on youtube. God I definitely hate the NME :/

i didn't mean anything against matt but man! this is a very odd complaint from their (his) part. i agree with no1kolfan: usually fans singing the lyrics at a show before the song is out is supposed to be flattering for the band- it shows how much you care about them and follow their career!
maybe they just caught him on a bad day with nothing else to complain about....

haha, no I wasn't directing that at you Laura! haha, but also, look at these comments:
"Anything that stops these talentless dullards releasing new material is absolutely fine in my book. I wonder how much we'd have to pirate to get them to stop altogether and split up? " um, chill OUT
annd
"what a daft twit. what difference does it make if someone records it and sticks it up on youtube? he didn't bother giving any reasoning other than "it kinda spoils it for us".what a pompous arse." that's what I meant by feeling bad for Matt ^^^

I'm just flabbergasted that Matt was the one that was doing the talking, when was the last time that happened? i know!! right??!! (karma for vocab too! flabbergasted.) lol, i'm sorry but i find it a little bit comical that the man who is never (or rather hardly ever) featured in sound nor scripted pages speaking something...then causes the biggest deal with the fewest words. lastly i would like to say, that i really didn't think what he said was that serious. i mean most established artists (as in signed) don't like bootlegs. or so i thought. whatever...who really cares? the comments from "fans" were way worse than what he said. whateva!! i loves him still!!!

He really didn't think about what he was saying, really stupid things to say. As everyone else has pointed out, if you're going to bother listening to it on youtube, you're probably going to buy the album. *shakes head*

i think it's stupid of him to say that and if they want to play more new songs live they should. it's not going kill the anticipation of the new album cos an album is different to live and just the whole album in sequence if you get me? and people who bootleg gigs usually give them away for free, what's the big deal? let's people who listen that weren't there. the people who were there got to so why not?

Kings of Leon are a great band, one of my favorites, but it's stuff like this that pisses me off. These guys are starting to get all 'Metallica' on us with their bootlegging/file sharing rants... The thing I loved about KOL in the early years was that they didnt get a fu*k about anything except MUSIC, BOOZE, and SEX. Now they are concerned that footage of a show that one of their FANS took is up on YOUTUBE? Excuse me, but please tell me how footage being posted on youtube is losing money for the band. It sucks that they are slowing becoming more and more greedy about $$$$$$. And for the record, people who take their DAT Recorders/Mics to shows to record the shows are not doing it as a money making venture. They are doing it because they love to do it. One more thing. Please tell me where I can purchase a "bootlegged" copy of one of their recent shows.... I dont think you can, BECAUSE 99.9% of the RECORDERS GIVE THEM OUT FOR FREE... *CLAP CLAP CLAP* for u my friend! u have said everything i feel about this band! as much as i love their music i cannot turn a blind eye to the fucking asses they are/have become!

hmmmm very interesting. i ripped the audio off the bbc broadcasted glastonbury performance, and put it in my box.net file, then like 2 weeks later they were all gone with a note from Sony BMG saying "deleted due to copyright infringement" i was like whooaa i feel bad. i didn't even realise i wasn't allowed, as the audio was release by BBC on free-to-air (i think?) television. which goes to show fans get excited about new things / performances and just want to share it with everyone. as most people who upload these things, myself included, do not gain any profit, i think its simply just a case of fans getting excited and wanting to share, its not their fault. but on the other hand i can see where matt/they are coming from. they have an album, and they have released 3 songs (use somebody via the video, crawl and sex on fire), without bootlegs none of us would have heard manhattan, unless we'd been to a show they played it at. so we are hearing more that we are "supposed" to, so i see their point.

I think the headline of the article sensationalized what Matt was saying and I think some of you have already figured it out. All he's saying is that if they play new material in concert, then everyone will have already heard it before they want it released. They must have wanted Crawl SOF and Manhattan to be heard or they wouldn't have played them. Perhaps if they had already released their cd, they could go ahead and play them instead of complaining about not being able to play them. Or sometimes maybe they could add a cover version to their act or perhaps jam a little instead of always playing the song almost exactly as it was on the record. Mix the set up a little. I might add that after awhile downloading bootlegs gets old because all the versions of the songs sound so similar.
