This poll's looking fairly even. I get the feeling this album is going to be one of those where every song is just brilliant - by which, of course, I mean a Kings of Leon album.

I am really trying not to hear all the songs that are available at the moment, but from the snippets that I have heard, Sex on Fire, is definately the one for me so far, its just got this Boys of Summer, top down drive fast vibe that will sound awesome if we ever get any summer in the UK!!!!

in one word......disapointing WHY? it's lame stadium rock. it sounds like a confused version of U2. 'manhattan' has a very pretty melody but as for 'crawl' and 'sex on fire', they just lack the rawness of which they use to have which is wat attracted me to them in the first place. they said they were going 'back to their roots' but instead it sounds like they have stolen someone elses.

I think Sex on Fire is my fav so far, by far. Manhattan does have that Arizona feel to it as well, which is great.

they said they were going 'back to their roots' but instead it sounds like they have stolen someone elses. I do not understand this at all?? Whose roots would u say they stole?? Any possibility they are evolving like all musicians do? Any chance at all? ??

Any possibility they are evolving like all musicians do? Any chance at all? ?? let me put it this way, all half-decent musicians can evolve, just like you said, but this doesn't exactly mean it is for the best. jefferenson airplane evolved into jefferson starship and it was complete shite yeah? this is not as an extreme transformation as that but sometimes it is better to stick with what they do best and i don't consider this stadium rock thing to be that, despite how much some people like it. it took balls to do what they did on YAYM and ASH and thats whate made it so different from the rest. and if you want to believe all the delay and reverb digital stuff is the roots of this band then please reconsider what they were before this; southern boys with mops and slurred words who were untrained to the current music scene, which they are only now far to familiar with.

Love Sex on Fire and Manhattan. Crawl is growing and not liking Use Somebody right now. It's so different it doesn't seem like them. I don't think it's very different like all there other stuff is, well, that's so far. I want to here it properly before I can properly judge...
[edit]And purity ^^^ I completely know what you're saying! Yes, they may be evolving, but since BOTT I feel they seem to be evolving into band that already exists or something, it's not as different anymore. And so far what I've heard of Use Somebody has worried me, at least I like the other three so far...

I can honestly say i love all 4 new songs that ive heard. Its probably cause i didnt have expectations, i ddnt hope for a certain sound, i just hoped for more great songs that i love, and these are great songs so im not dissappointed. I dont pigeon-hole it as 'a kings of leon sound' cause each album has had something different, i think everything they have come out with is a kings of leon sound, YAYM was just one of their sounds. Just because people dont like some of the newer songs, it doesnt mean, its not 'kings of leon' anymore, it just means you dont like it as much as the first one they came out with. Its not like the kings came out in the beginning and said, ok, this is YAYM, this is it, we are never gonna come out with anything different. This is all you're gonna get! Its just annoying when people say its not them anymore, its like, what they have to just make everything they do in the future sound the way the first album did? Plus if they did that, i guarantee there would be people saying, yeah its great and all, but i would really love to hear something different... You can never please everyone and i guess thats just whats happening here. By the way this is just my opinion, i am not having a go at anyone. Just generalising from all the opinions i heard voiced here And for the ones that are disappointed, i think its a shame, cause we are all kings fans and we all want to love the new material, obviously its not your fault if you dont, thats just the way you feel.

i wish i could let myself listen to singles. i'm the type that needs to hear the whole album all the way through.
that comment on the 'sex on fire' link was hilarious though.

I know what you mean Louise, and I respect your opinion! and agree that this is all just a clshing of opinions. But when I say they're aren't the same, I'm not criticising them for changing, just saying I in some ways, prefered them before. Saying that, there is only one of four songs so far that we've taken a glimpse at that I'm not sure of. I still love te Kings more than anything!! Haha. I think when people are saying it's not like them anymore they mean they just don't like what they're evolving into as much, not criticising so much. I didn't have any expectations as well, no matter what they do I seem to love all of it. It's just Use Somebody (which I'm not making to much of an opinion on right now!) doesn't seem like anything special to me right now. Like every other song they have ever done has done. Guess they can't be amazing all the time though!

didnt we read in interviews and stuff how they planned the make the new album heavier and rockier? i love the new songs all of them especially sex on fire i must have played it a hundred times already but, do the new songs sound that different to because of the times? in my opinion the new songs could have been on bott they just seem a bit more evolved.

I'm still not agreeing with the losing roots part though, and I probably never will, so we can continue this debate or agree to disagree, either way suits me??

Nicely said! I can't really say anything more other than that they are artists, and artists of any capacity evolve and change over time as they grow and live their lives. Look at any band with any type of longevity and all the albums sound a little different, some a LOT different. Even look at Pearl Jam.. Does their newer stuff REALLY sound like Ten anymore? I think not, but they are still amazing, and always distinctively Pearl Jam, you know? And if you talk to any hardcore fan, they have albums they LOVE and albums they only like. So if you don't think this album is great so far, like i do (and umm hey? we have quite a few more songs to go ).. I'll bet there will be many more *fingers crossed* albums to come you know? I personally look forward to seeing the rest of what they have done with Only by the Night. Sept. 22nd (which is also my birthday ) can't come fast enough!! Cheers!

THIS SEX IS ON FIRE. Yeah, I'm going with sex on fire. Really tough though, because I love them all, Use Somebody suprised me a bit at first I would say.. but once I'd heard it a few times, I was completely converted. Oh, this album is gonna be brilliant. So unbelievably brilliant.
