On their previous three records, I got the sense that each record has the same flow, a huge story. I felt as if each song was linked to one another. On the new record, Kings seem to throw songs together. Yes, I am judging the whole album on the three songs I have heard. Crawl has built this wall of sound that could only (perhaps) be compaired to the sound "Charmer" brought to BotT. The other song, "Manhatten," has this summer nite sound to it that reminds me of "Milk" mixed with "Ragoo," then there is "Use Somebody." This track has most people in an uproar about how it sounds, to me, I do hear Coldplay just a little though. I passed Use Somebody to a friend of mine that dislikes most of KoLs stuff but she fell in love with Use Somebody. Guess what, KoL just made another fan. The new album seems to be a mix bag of songs with no clear direction and you know what THATS OK. Hell, its a good thing. I understand people being upset because we just lost our dirty southern boys to "arena" venues but they might just one day decide to make another dirty album. Either way they will sell a ton of copies because of Use Somebody. Has anyone heard My Morning Jacket- Evil Urges? That album is a mixed bag of songs and it is hailed as the best record of 2008. So perhaps KoL will do the same.

yeah, that's what bothered me at first a little bit. but i kind of embrace it now, maybe it'll be the diversity of songs that will make the record really interesting. but anyway... there are still 8 songs left to listen to. we'll see^^
the thing that still bothers me somehow is the album title...

dont fret about it till you've heard the whole thing would be my advice. if you listen a couple of times and still dont like it then fair enough.

It's ridiculous to assume the album has no clear dierection after only hearing 3 songs, there's still 8 songs or so...

Im just gonna wait until the album comes out to make my full opinion, of the songs we have heard it is a bit of a mixed review from me at the moment however when i listen to the whole album the songs will probably fit in really well!

Appleshaker, I was just saying how diverse the first 3 tracks are. I like how there isnt a clear direction, everything is up for grabs it seems on this record. Anything goes. I love that about the first 3 songs.

op whaaaat? totally agree appleshaker how can you judge an album like that when you havent heard it
but i get what your saying with the sound that it will appeal to people who didnt like kings of leon before ut to be fair ive been telling non believers for ages that this band would become huge, now they will be and i dont see that dirty sound that we all love coming back, but still wait until the albums out guys
and for the record i remember zane lowe speaking about arizona before the release of bott and he said that was a masterpiece which is my fave song and i know hes a massive kings fan so ill trust him on that

This thread is irrelevant since the album doesn't come out for another 7 weeks or whatever it is. Unless its been leaked and you have heard the entire album. If the latter - why have you not shared yet?

KOL is awesome theres still only one song i dislike and thats charmer, I like every song from only by the night so far. So if you a kol fan then youll like what ever they put out, becuase there a badass band. If your a yaym fan, then only buy that cd. I like all three cds, which are all different and I'll like each song on this album because its different.
this isn't a concept album and every song should sound different

Hate it that some people think that the albums have to flow in a story. Is that really important? Or that songs sound different... surely thats a good thing?

Seems to me, not many of you who commented actually read the whole leading post. So far, the three songs are so different that its great that they are trying new things. You got the hint of that with BotT. I am not dogging the album or hate the album (according to these three tracks). I like them to try new things. All I am saying is that with what we heard there is no clear direction for the album, which is GREAT.

Just thought you had decided that it was a bad thing before we get chance to hear the whole album. I'm saving my early opinions (other than whether it sounds good or not) until I have listened to it a few times. September seems a long time away though to me now
