I love Arizona. Fave song on the album (or knocked up maybe), but a friend pointed out that it sounds abit like a Michael Jackson single. Upon investigation, it turns out it is verrrrrry similar to "Will you be there". What do you reckon? www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvYygjcMDdQCant see the Kings being huge MJ fans...

I can see what you're saying, but I wish you hadn't made me watch that video.
I don't think the similarity is enough to say that KOL copied MJ, or even are fans of his.

you are not going to believe me but a couple of days ago i thought EXACTLY the same thing about that
i was listening to glastonburys version and this MJ song came to my mind....i think the reason is that the choir from Mjs song follows the same melody (or almost the same) that Calebs guitar has

The guitar part in Charmer sounds like Beat It by Jackson. (matt's guitar)

Hahaha, that's funny. I just imagined Caleb singing like MJ and the rest of the boys standing in the choir, laaaa!! But I agree with Heich ^^ And it does have a similar sound but I wouldn't have noticed otherwise

Jacko's a legend, probably the greatest music artist in my lifetime and I'm not even really a fan of that genre of music.
I know he's done some weird stuff in his life but surely that doesn't make him totally unwatchable.

Maybe Kim just hates his music. If she doesn't want to watch it, fair enough.

......as long as none of the kings songs start to sound like earth song i think we're ok! Michael Jackson was a legend back in the day, thriller is an amazing album as is off the wall but it all went down hill after that! it does sound fairly similar i will agree with you on that

I'm pretty sure that this Michael jackson song was from the movie "Free Willy." Back then it was everywhere, and everyone heard it -- and a lot of kids made fun of the lyrics, changing them and making them dirty.
So, I don't doubt Caleb and the gang heard this as kids. Even if you didn't listen to pop music, it was everywhere, on commercials, in the 7-Eleven, on Mizak.
That said, "Arizona" is not technically a lift from this song. The cadence of the riff is identical, but the actual chords are different and the melody is way different. But I don't doubt this song formed a backdrop to their writing, just as you can sometimes har a song out of the 1940s and hear a hook the Beatles took, then tweaked.

No one's saying they "lifted" it from MJ, just that the two songs sound similar in some ways.

i am. they downright stole it. thats a breach of copyright right there! i've lost all respect for you kings. bastards.
naww just having a laugh haha. i must say though i do like a bit of micheal. "the way you make me feel" is class, nothing beats thriller though
