It's alright. The bass and the vocals make the song.

Manhattan has to be one of the simplest, lacking songs they've written, other than the awesome bass and vocals......lol. I only hope the studio version has something more to offer.

^^ So many of their songs are simple, though, so I don't see why that should matter.
The first two albums were recorded live meaning that there was hardly anything more than two guitars, bass, drums and vocals other than a few things added in later etc

I actually think that Manhattan has a very rich sound, mostly due to Matt's guitar sound due to that pedal he uses. Very good song all round in every department

the vocal melody is fantastic, the bass is awesome, the guitars add plenty and compliment eachother well... and the drums...well they contribute to the dynamic very effectively.
it's a very good song all round methinks.

To be fair, I'm judging the song with the same standards as their recorded songs. That could be a problem considering I've only listened to it on youtube.
BUT, agree to disagree. There's no way I can say I don't like it, but I will definitely miss tracks like Trani, Four Kicks, King of the Rodeo, etc. But (Finally) I don't think there's anyway I'm not going to love this next album. KoL is amazing. (I just don't think this song is their best, do they?)

I like the song, I think Calebs voice is fantastic on it, It does have pretty simple lyrics but effective, kind of like on Call. I just cant wait to hear the finished article, I think the albums going to show a very mature side to them, at the end of the day there not running about taking lots of drugs and sleeping with lots of women any more so their writing changes like it does with a lot of bands

KoL is amazing. (I just don't think this song is their best, do they?) i dont think on call was there best of BOTT by far, did they? it was their first single... but the rest of the album was awesome. They will definatly have gems on here we will all appriciate for YEARS to come.

just because a song is a single doesn't mean it's their best. not even close. most bands i listen to their singles are my least favorite songs..including kings of leon.
the vocals are really powerful in this song and make it for me. yeah the instrumentation is simple but who cares? some of the best songs ever written are no more than a guitar and a voice.
i will say one thing. if you are a fan of the rugged southern rock aspect of kol/their first 2 albums, then you are going to be disappointed because they've moved passed that stage and obviously aren't planning on going back.

They're sound, they're attitude, they're songs.

Manhatten to me doesnt sound as hardcore as some songs on BOTT which makes me happy. Maybe that why fans is my favorite song on the album.

I think it's awesome, it'll sound a lot better when we hear it on the album instead of dodgy youtube videos.

Now that I've heard a clearer version on Manhattan, I love it.

It's no simpler than any of their other songs. In fact, I think it has to be one of the LEAST simple songs they've written. The bass line beautiful and I can tell with Crawl and Manhattan that they have decided to stick with songs like My Third House and branch into a whole new sound.

GD, I feel like anytime I'm honest, I get attacked. ftw? And yes, it is simplest, I just made it a new word. Take it or leave it. But it seems we have a different idea of what simple means anyway. People, relax (that aren't already) no hard feelings ziggy, you just happened to be the one that gave me more shit. To be honest, I don't think I've ever posted an attempt to disprove someone's opinion..

I don't think Manhattan is simple at all, and I explained why. I don't see how I was "giving you shit." No one is attacking you. Lets not get melodramatic.
