Not sure whether it has been posted before, but I just read it in a magazine.
Luke Pritchard: Sometimes it seems like we (The Kooks) are the only ones who are still in it for the music. I was in a very bad club recently with Caleb Followill. So I said to him: 'I know this great blues bar just around the corner, and it's open mic night. Wanna go and sing a song there? That should be fun, man!' He looked at me like I came from a different planet. I just don't get it anymore.
What is he trying to say? That only the Kooks are the real deal and that bands such as Kings of Leon are just posers? Look, I think it's in a band's right to say such things, but only if it's TRUE, which is definitely not the case, and I'm not saying that 'cause I love KOL. I think the Kings have done far greater things than the Kooks, really.
Could it perhaps be, Luke, that Caleb's problem wasn't singing in a blues bar, but singing with YOU?? Ever considered that?

I would have a problem singing with Luke from the Kooks, if I could sing... but I can't;... but I can't stand them!! They are everywhere, just a result of that brit school there.. tssssssssss

Okay so I like The Kooks, and I also have heard Luke is a dick. BUT I've heard that same thing from the guys of BRMC about KOL, that they only want to get bigger and stuff, so... As long as I like the music I won't pay attention to what bands say of other bands, and I won't stop liking them because they say something like that about another band I like.

Luke just came up on television (what a coincidence) in a show about the upcoming Belgian festivals. He actually earned back some credit he lost in my opinion.
You might have heard he insulted the Rock Werchter crowd last year by calling us 'Shit crowd' loud and clearly in the microphone. Today he explained why: the front rows were taken by these hardcore Metallica fans (who were playing that evening). They were acting bored and were booing The Kooks. Obviously me and my friends (who were really excited to see them) didn't know what was going on in front, so we were quite upset by Luke's comment on the crowd. I'm glad he set things straight. But I still think he has to rethink his comment on the Kings.

I used to like the Kooks until they decided to release a 2nd album that sounded....erm....pretty much like the first one! if any band are in it to be famous and pretty much sell out its the Kooks! they had the audacity (not sure if thats how you say it  ) to charge £32 for a ticket to see them at a shitty venue in Glasgow, there not U2 for feck sake! Luke Pritchard is a wannabe Johnny Borrell and thats no good thing! Leave Caleb alone Luke you aint fit to lick his boots!! |
