Well, let's do this...
I went with some friends of mine to the gig. We were waiting in line around 4 pm. Since the venue is outside with a big roof covering the entire place, you could still hear everything from a distance, and it was loud! We arrived there when they were doing their sound check. We overheard them playing 2 new songs, I think it was My Party and some other new song (was it Fans, I'm On Call, or Arizona? Hmm). Not sure about it yet, but they were the more mellowed out tracks and as well as The Bucket. You could overhear Caleb commenting to the soundguy that Jared doesn't really sing much on his mic.
After their soundcheck, we were waiting in line till we spoted Caleb and Nathan walking around outside, across the street to a bar called Alibies that was walking distance (about 3 or 4 blocks away) from the venue. They were with a middle aged looking lady, could be their manager or something. Caleb waved hi to us as we all were looking at them in awe. We told ourselves to let them be, so we didn't run up to them. It would just seem too weird. That's where we noticed that Caleb's hair seemed a little short, he had some hat on. It wasn't a cowboy hat, but it looked like something Jared would wear.
The boys didn't go on till 10 pm. Played their usual songs, including HAPPY ALONE!
**I got mixed up with their setlist, so some changes have been made**
Now to their new stuff. They opened their set with Charmer. Ahh a taste of their new stuff. Charmer is a really hard rocking track with Caleb screaming "wow" and the riffs being a bit heavy, but great nonetheless. Fans is a very mellowed out track with a hell of a catchy chorus. This is the song where Caleb whips out his Takamine acoustic guitar. I'm On Call is another really mellowed out tune. It's something entirely different, but done tastefully in KOL fashion. My Party is their most dancable track, and has Jared using some sort of echo effects for his bass at the beginning. You've seen videos of it before from Hedgepeth. Arizona, is another mellowed track like I'm On Call, very good.
After the show, we were waiting outside the barricades where their busses were parked. We saw Nacho and his crew from a distance loading up all the equipment in their trailers. After a little while, they were a couple of pretty ladies waiting with us wanting to meet the fellas as well. They were talking about seeing them at the Austin City Limits festival...I wish I went to that, but anyways. It was until a little before 1 when Caleb and Nathan got out of their bus. We overheard from security, who were a bunch of cool dudes, that they were going to kick it at Alibies. So the fellas saw us, and well that was the only way to head to the bar, so they walked in our general direction and they interacted with us all. They signed my ASH booklet, and I also got to take pictures with them individually. Caleb then said "god bless" and took off walking. A little while later Jared and Matthew walked out and also walked in our general direction and they also stopped by to interact with us as well. They were in a hurry but they were still nice guys to sign my ASH booklet and take pictures with them as well. Matthew was like, "Thanks for coming guys, see you all soon" and walked away. Weird, because when I last met them, he hardly said a word.
My dream came true again. T'was a great event and a real moment of inspiration watching these fine young men rip it up for the Texas sized crowds. I bought myself a North America 2006 tour tee. It's brown with their logo on the right breast and the dates in the back.
