I am not sure if this has already been posted. But here it is regardless: Jared/Matthew told Clash magazine about the albums that inspired them. MATTHEW: My favourite records are records that I like from start to fnish -I'm sure that it's that way for everybody- but that one was that way from the third time I listened to it. The first time I listened to it I was like 'Ehh, I kinda like it, they're alright'. But because there was one song I liked I listened to it again and then by the second time I was like 'I gotta listen to it again'. The only reason we ever heard of Interpol is because we came to London and we were all staying at the Columbia (Hotel) together... JARED: I hated them just by looking at them MATTHEW: Oh my God, they called us Led Zeppelin while we were walking up the stairs and I wanted to beat their fuc*in' asses to bad. JARED: That was when Carlos had the little pin sideburns. They made me puke up a little bit. But is one of those things, you just thought 'God, they seem so pretencious', and then it just pissed you off so bad when you heard their music. Then I heard their fuc*in' record and it made me want to die because it was so good. And the last line KILLS me.

The funny part is that i got this from the interpol forum (which i never go on, by the by)
So, they were obviously very pro-interpol and have this funny impression that KOL are southern hippy/hobos. Whereas, interpol is this highclass, well educated band. Which might be the reason for the tension earlier.

I read an interview with Interpol today, where Paul was saying the exact same thing, but about The Strokes, not about KoL.
Paul: The first time I heard the Strokes didn't do that much good to my ego and pride, at all. We played a lot of shows with Interpol, but we weren't that successful. And all of the sudden, The Strokes became famous, out of nowhere. And they didn't even exist as long as we did! A lot of people told us:' So what, they're just a bunch of rich kids, they are famous 'cause their dads are as well and blabla.' But as a musician I thought: No, they're just fucking great, and that's why they're so successful.
You're right Paul, you're right ..

I fucking love Jared. Thank you for sharing that Navi! He's so honest and funny. For being a man who's always dressed in the latest designer duds, dates models, is ridiculously handsome and is a frickin' rockstar, he's so funny and self-deprecating. He seems so down to earth!

I just read the rest of this article, 'cause I never had time to do that. Apparently they didn't only mention The Strokes, but Kings of Leon as well: interviewer: As a rockstar, do you guys experience a lot of lust and sex? Paul: Yeah, of course. Although it isn't as decadent as people seem to think. At least not with us. We're not Kings of Leon, those fucking guys get all the chicks (laughs).
