Thanks Hoppy78 and Karma! Also, I found some really old articles about Kings at the beginning of this year but I never knew where to post it. Sorry if it has already been posted... The first one is really funny, hope you like it. It's from nashvillescene website, by William Dean Hinton [May 4, 2006]: Mama’s BoysIn a dispute over loud music, Nashville rock rebels turn to their hardcore motherwww.nashvillescene.com/Stories/News/2006/05/04/Mama_s_Boys/index.shtmlThe second one, well, it's not about the Kings but Angelo Petraglia, one of their producer. It was written in 2001, the same year the Kings signed with their manager Ken Levitan...[according to Uncut Magazine, in another great article from April 2007]. It clarifies the "Nashville system", also mentioned in one of the articles posted by Hoppy. [puremusic...]. Good article by Larry Katz [June 28, 2001] Grand Ole OpportunityBay State musicians discover Nashville is a haven for songwriters www.tomhambridge.com/grand_ole_opportunity.htmAnd finally, just "a little piece" of Uncut Article [April 2007, with The Who on front cover]. I think it complements the second article. :
The band pretty much started in my living room”, Petraglia tells Uncut. “Levitan [manager] brought the two brothers over to me, and I could see that they had that Elvis-Southern thing, innocent but totally wicked. They didn´t really know much rock music, so I played them Exile On Main Street, Beggars Banquet, Velvet Underground, all that stuff. Nathan hopped on the drums, ‘cos he had played in church, and I slapped a guitar on Caleb and taught him a barre chord. Then we started writtin´stuff together.”
With a handful of song, Nathan and Caleb headed to New York, acompanied by Petraglia and Levitan, playing nine auditions in two days, receiving four offers. One was from RCA´s Steve Ralbovsky, whose CV includes The Strokes, My Morning Jacket and, later, La Montagne.
“They played a few song in a conference room at RCA,” Ralbovsky remembers. “ The guys are just sitting´there lookin´down, tappin´their heels and slapping their hands on their thighs, and this older dude with a bandana on his head is playing guitar in the corner. It was literally love at first sight.”
Back in Nashville with a record deal, the brothers put their band together.
“The thing about the Kings is that they´ve always gone against what everybody wants them to do. Like, Caleb said to me, ‘My little brother´s gonna be our bass player’, and I asked if he was good. ‘Well, he doesn´t play’. And Jared was just 14 at that time. I went to the music store, bought him a bass, sat in his room and showed him the basis – and now he´s my favorite bass player! Then they wanted to bring their cousin Matthew over from Mississippi ‘cos they´d heard him play over the phone.”
“We knew the only people we´d ever be able to be completely honest with as family – each other.” Caleb explains. “It was like us against the world.”
And the last one [now is true! ]. This is not only a gig review[September 12, 2006, Citty Hall, Nashville...], but also a great article and, up to a certain extent, it is related to the articles mentioned above...By Tracy Moore [September 21, 2006]:
Holy Rollers Why we need the Kings of Leon more than they need us www.nashvillescene.com/Stories/Arts/Music/Sweet_Riffs/2006/09/21/Holy_Rollers/index.shtml
Good luck!
