The band currently are by no means small, opening for Dylan, U2 and Pearl Jam are all pretty good indicators of thier fame. I get the feeling though that they are going to be THE next smash hit band for this year. Snowpatrol and Razorlight and The Killers were 3 bands last year to take it to the next level. This year I really believe will be Kings of Leon's.
Why?
Well for starters, the album is very much more mainstream sounding which is obviously the biggest point.
Zane Lowe, turning into the next John Peel IMO (in that he has faith in bands and is a force in bringing them to the fore front), rates them soo highly and has even made them single of the week.
Channel4, did an exclusive play on thier first single for the new album. That says to me that influential people have decided its time that they are pushed.
Magazines and papers have cottoned on to them. I have read a few short articles about the band in various random magazines. The biggest being the Bizarre collum of "The Sun" newspaper. Something about her catching up with Caleb at the NME aftershow party and him wanting an award for "tightest denim".
It just seems to me like they are stepping it up to another level. I wish them the best, and also have faith that they won't forget the hardcore fans that have followed them since the early days.
Your thoughts?
Pexbo.

My feeling is that, Zane has behind Kings for a long time, & has been promoting them where he can. As have a lot of music industry types & influential bands. I seem to recall that the release of Aha brought about a lot of press, including a big article in Rolling Stone in the US. It may be that they become more popular this year, but to me it seems the same sort of/amount of press as when they released Aha. Although I must admit that I was suprised by the channel 4 video premiere t'other night. And does an album with slower/more mellow songs on it make it more mainstream? I'm not sure, just asking the question

in the US it is definately Rolling Stone that promotes them, they try to name them in almost all their issus and they always have good things to say about them.

I have been told on good authority that the next album will be about "bitches" "getting shot" and "how they roll". Ethan Johns is being replaced by Dr Dre and they are going to be doing collaberations with Nelly Fertardo, Fergie and The Pussycat Dolls.

I do think this album will bring in alot of fame for them. I've been sharing the album with people I know, most of them dont really listent to their earlier stuff, but they love this new album.
I think it just reaches a wider spectrum of people with its bigness and exuberance. Its more selfless this time around and easier to relate to.

Now to be honest I'm not sure of their general appeal down under. I've got a few friends that are into them, but as for that, anyones guess...but working in a record store I've only had one person ask about their new album (that was today - and he didn't know any of their old stuff; had just heard the new single) and everybody I've recommended the album to has never heard of them This album won't break them. And in a way that's good. If anything does stand a chance of giving them more exposure I fully believe it'll be Black Thumbnail, or, at an outside shot, True Love Way. We'll see...only time will tell.
