Whats up guys... another newbie to the fanclub but not to the music! The Kings can rock! Ive always rocked out to their music for about a year now and have always told friends about them but it wasnt until recently that I looked up some bios and interviews and saw that the band grew up in the pentacostal atmosphere and I can totally relate! Maybe thats why I have always been drawn to the music but I definitely know the story.... The close knit communities where women are not allowed to show any skin or cut any hair. No one is allowed to watch TV and listening to the radio is pushing it! I remember having to sit in the hallway of my 2nd grade science class because I couldnt watch the educational Video with my friends and classmates!! From what I remember it was some of the harder years of my life because it set me so far apart from the world. I was always feeling like I was missing out on so much. But luckily I got out at young age.... my life in the church will never be forgotten... Anyway just wanted to say hi to everybody and show some respect for the Kings!!! Kings of Leon Rock!!!! ii Mate welcome aboard, I'll think you'll find it quite cosy in here ( i hope) Wow being a Pentecostal kid must have been pretty difficult time. I did not know it was that strict till i read up on the religion. How did u survive , just thinking about it makes me feel depressed - no music? ahhhh, whats the justification? I don't think theres anything like that in London, most people are quite relaxed here, and being taken out of class, boy that would have pissed me right off! you probably would have gotten taken the mickey out of you if you went to my school. Then again you would not have gone to my school cos i went to an all girls -bummer hay, mind you that brings its of set of problems. Any-who, enough of my rabbit..blah blah blah, I'm procrastinating from uni work....

Thanx 4 the welcome Vienna! Sorry if I sounded too sentimental bout the whole thing. I wasnt tryin to be mushy but I think it came out like that... I was just tryin to make the point that evolving into the band these guys are today from being raised in that lifestyle is something to be noticed. ANyway....what is "gotten taken the mickey out of you"? Are you saying something about an ass kicking? Thats funny... And we could listen to music we just didnt have an extensive array of choices....I'm talkin Patsy Cline to John Denver.....yeah! To help pass my time I would just chase girls. I was a lil ladies man.....

Oh i forget that you may not understand certain slang terms i may often use on this board, some people (including Americans) may not understand ( I'm a bit of a cockney lass) (lass meaning girl) - sorry there luv! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockney (another slang word used in terms of endearment) "Taking the mickey" basically means mocking or teasing someone, so in your case - people would have taken the piss (again another slang term meaning to mock someone not to literally pee on them) out of you for not watching the video, (and yeah it may have involved just a bit of an ass kicking, but not too much ) Man i had no idea about the amount of slang terms i use - thanx for pointing that out - i think i might get some elocution lessons now oh and i agree the kings produce good music, considering they were somewhat deprived of popular culture whilst growing up.......Chasing the girls hay... cheeky monkey
