Mr. Feeny -
Just read your old review of Kings of Leon's "Youth and Young Manhood". Are you dismissing this fantastic album merely on the merit that the songs were co-written with a professional songwriter? My good man, have you no greater understanding of music and songwriting? Some, if not most, of the greatest songs ever to grace human ears were co-written by someone that you will never know. To that idiotic dismissal, I have just two words for you - "Bernie" and "Taupin".
Its nice that you acknowledge that its a fantastic album, but to dig for the "con" to that "pro" is juvenile - a term that I'll use when referring to your reviews from now on. That, my friend, was not manufactured by the "corporations".

It only makes sense that when a record company is about to invest a large sum of money on a new group they're going to try to have some influence on the eventual product so that it will sell and thus recoup their investment. But I don't think working with another songwriter means that the tunes are "manufactured" either. From my own experience I can say that having a different perspective to bounce ideas off of or to elaborate on your own ideas can bring very positive results. Regardless, I'd care to see the reviewer's opinions on KOLs more recent work, without much aid from an external songwriter, which I think is even better. KOL rock, pure and simple.

Okay I want to bitch slap this man for comparing S Club and Kings of Leon in any way. Good grief what a cynic! Im sure they got alot of help with writing and working on the first album, because like any member of the band will readily admit - they sucked when they first started writing songs! But everyone needs a mentor during the transition from mediocre to greatness, and luckily they worked with someone who understood them musically. And for the record, fuck Justin Timberlake!

This reviewer spends to much time thinking, enjoy them for what they are, a no nonsense rock and roll band, no bells and whistles just lush soundscapes of melody and rythm. Love em. Im sure that they had a fairly large say in their songs, i cant see it any other way.

Who is this guy? I mean is he some known critic or something? 'Cause I've never heared of him and to be quite honest I couldn't care less, I mean, guys, Rolling Stone threw garbage at bands like Led Zeppelin for years, writing some Album reviews that were amazingly stupid! What could you expect from some bloke like this?
I mean there's something more than analizing music when it comes to it, right? And as cheesy as it may sound, it's about the way that makes you feel, period, there's no critic that can turn that down.
All bands get, like someone very well said above, people around their albums, and that always happens and it won't maybe if you're an old band, or you start your own label. Besides... if you wanna talk music, ask musicians, I'm in favor of critics about Rock or whatever else, like Movies n' stuff, but I would like to know if he truly knows about music, studied music, plays music or something or if he's just speaking out of his pure mind which you know, it's ok, but then say it. Because it's something to listen to music, but something completely different to MAKE it. The guys are gonna be involved with Dylan, I mean, that's one of the most amazing songwritters ever!!! Do you think he would just pick a band to play with him? Or that someone picks them for him?
To close myself with this, this is the best thing I can say: "If I like it, f*ck it!"
