i like some of these suggestions i always like to add my opinion so i will. i dont have such a problem with large sigs (pics) but multiple gifs slow my computer down to the point where i usually just exit the thread then i start to feel like i cant be arsed to post (obv by my post count that doesnt happen too often) but it is irritating, im happy to get rid of my gif if neccessary (although i do enjoy it).
go mods!!! you guys rock!!

instead of deleting all the chit-chat in the pic threads [which would take forever I'm sure] how about just making new ones & locking the ones that already exist so that no-one can add to them?

Rockchick and Booradley I like your posts on the subject of the photo threads, but I can see problems with them and I'm wondering what people think.
Firstly - totally appreciate Rockchick's wanting to retain those 'good times'. However, those 'good times' have accumulated to the point where they've become a problem to other people and even to the people who are regulars there. That's why you all now make an effort to chat in the other Matt threads (incidentally, something I suggested a while beforehand when I was finding it a problem - I was effectively ignored, but wasn't bothered enough to press my point). I think it would be better if the chat was deleted, and some of the picture quoting because the photo threads are, as I think we may all appreciate, for everyone, not a comparatively small friendship group. I think that includes KOL fans who aren't even HAers - after all, many of the photos were not taken by HAers in the first place, though I realise not everyone may see it like that.
The problem with Booradley's idea of just locking the thread, is that it effectively just freezes the problem. It's like throwing all your junk behind the sofa because visitors are coming rather than tidying up properly - it works, until you need some of that stuff! The problem of finding photos would still be there.
I can see that sorting out those threads is a big job, it's a lot to ask of our mods and not really fair in my opinion. Personally I would like to see it done, I've been wondering if it would be possible for other person/s to take it on. I think I might be willing to do it, all of the threads even, but I would want to find out a few things and think it over a bit more before commiting myself. Is this even practical? And how do people feel about it? If I were to do this I absolutely am not talking about me becoming a mod - I wouldn't want that, and believe me no one would like it if I was. I'm thinking more like a janitor. I'm also not thinking of this as a longterm thing necessarily.
It would be easy enough to take on board people's need for time if they wanted to save anything, or to have a last read.

My ideas about this:
Personally, I don't mind if the chatter from the pictures thread gets deleted. Sure, it will mean that the "good times" will be deleted, but I think that everyone should realise that when they post things on a forum like this, there is always a chance that it won't be there forever. However, I do think that you should give people time to save the messages, before you start deleting them.
Having said that, I think it's important to realise that even if you delete all the chatter, it will still take a lot of time to search for a particular picture. There are just too many around. I have quite a few pictures in my photobucket, but not nearly all, and it always takes some time looking for a certain picture.
Last: I must admit that I was a bit upset to see that some people were annoyed, or even angry, with us posting in the picture thread. On the one hand I feel pretty guilty now, on the other hand I know I don't have to be. It just made me feel a bit weird.
Anyway, I hope we will find a solution that will please everyone!

Guys, Gio and I have decided that we will be deleting the conversations in the picture threads that don't relate directly to the pictures.
I'm sorry if this upsets some of you, but its something that has been discussed for a long time and we've made the decision to do it.
In some cases there are pages and pages of chat that are totally off topic and recently when I was going through the threads looking for a particular photo, I scrolled though over 10 pages with not one pic on it.
I'm starting from the beginning so its going to take me ages until I get to some of your discussions. These threads were started in 05 and some of you only joined in 09, so I've got 4 years to go through! (And this is in my own time when not at work).
I'm not deleting every post that doesn't have a picture because that takes away the fun, its just the long discussions.
Ticboo, don't worry about it being a big job for me. I'm a mod for the reason that I like things to be in order!
Marcella, no one should feel guilty or weird. This shouldn't be a big deal.

Wow, that's a massive job...good luck! Marcella's right - it will always be difficult to search for photos. The photo threads aren't pic galleries and don't try to be, there are hundreds and hundreds of photos and that's what's good about them! But it'll be easier to skim through them without chat that isn't related to the photos. It might be an idea to add to the "rules for posting" post to request that people try not to quote a whole load of photographs just after they've been posted only to add "Hot!  " after them!!! |

yeah i didnt realise how bad that was cause i hardly ever go in the picture threads but it does slow things down alot. also multiple gifs and pics in sigs.

No there isn't a way to shrink anyones sig unless I go in. Modify their profiles and do it myself but I don't want to do that because that would take forever! And plus it just might piss people off ha.
