glockenspeil tantrums i'm not taking any sides cause frankly i don't care,but i want to just point out have you not just basically described everybody here To be honest, i dont agree. Perhaps it describes a lot of people here, but personally I've never banged on about my particular field of excessive knowledge, and i even doubt if anyone on here knows what that is. I dont really see the point in making sure everyone knows how great I am at certain things. But yes, it was a silly argument theyre the best kind! Smite at will *hides*

Use Flash for a message board?! Do you know what Flash is and it's capabilities?! It's much more logical to utilize Java scripting then Flash for something like a messageboard. Show me a message board in which flash is used.
The tiled design is probaly not intended for high resolution screens (like my own) so of course you see the tiling.
And like I stated in another thread, you seem come off with this inferiority complex in which you would like to throw your "knowledge" at people. It might not be intentional, or it might be intentional. Either or it appears intentional and of course it is rubbing people the wrong way.
You must remember that there are some people here who understand computer languages, and there are some people who do not here. So don't feel the need to attack someone with a snobby remark just because they may not understand you.
If you dislike this message board so much then please, by all means, attempt to crack into it and alter the aesthetic (background, font colorations, etc.) Or show us your "exceedingly exceptional" website that you have.

Dear dear, where to begin. Well who said to use flash for a forum? I certainly didn't. And of course I know it's capabilities; considering I use it every day. By the way, if you really wanted to, you could probably create a decent forum using flash, along with external PHP scripts and java applets actually sprited into the movies. In case you didn't know, which it looks like you don't; you can place java into flash. As for the tiling, I know *why* it's doing it, I was asking why they let it do it. Moving on... Obviously some people here understand computers, what is your point? I do not have some sort of inferiority complex, nor do I come on here to try and make fools of people on subjects they may or may not know about. Also, I have only retaliated when I've first been attacked by someone else. Don't try and be condesending to me either, I do know what aesthetics is. I have shown my website on a couple of other threads actually. Seen as though you apparently missed it, you can take a look: www.kurtnoble.com/. Now try and be less sarcastic in your next post, you can't pull it off well.

I thought you were inquiring about the message board as well as the Graphic User Interface. The whole site is tiled in my perspective (1280x1024...god I can't wait to get my 19" LCD screen soon). Sure, Flash is much nicer, more flexible, but I don't think that the creators have much knowledge in it as this it their first site. This site isn't intended on being a complex site. It is simply a fan site; simple HTML coding, utilizing frames. Probably created with a simple program such as Microsoft Front page.
The reason why they "let it" do that is they are probably unaware that it is happening. Their browser probably isn't very large, hence the mistake.
My point is some people understand what you are saying here and can respond to your questions, but others cannot and when they seem confused you believe they are attacking you. Just relax. Be considerate, that is all I am asking. Not everyone is attacking you if they are asking a question. When someone asked "huh?!" You retaliated with a disrespectful response. They weren't attacking, they were genuinely confused at your question and the only way they could respond was in confusion. Rewording your question perhaps would have been a better choice of a response. Most people here probably don't even know what a GUI is, or what Flash is. Please be patient. It's like working with a client who is unaware of the language of web design. You have to make both parties communicate in a language that can be understood, probably less technical.
I wasn't being sarcastic (hence why it appears I "can't pull it off"), condescending, or dismissing your knowledge. I know you can place Java into Flash hence why it is such a flexible and popular web design tool. Obviously in the company you work for you do this for a living. It's a good site as well with a well designed portfolio. All I am saying is possibly providing helpful tips that can be utilized by the creators of this site would be good instead of always doing a critical analysis. Preventing tiling is a good one. Now how would they do that? Give them helpful tips.
If they were professionals, or were associated with the label then sure, they could hire a company (like KNI) to do the majority of the design, but it's intended on being simple. Being a designer myself sometimes you do run into things where you feel the need to redesign, and make things better. It is just an initial instinct, but sometime you just have to let that go. I believe that this site is just one of those sites where they are still learning web development, they are just playing around with it and just having fun.
On a side note, have you ever seen the work of Joshua Davis (you probably have)? I'm a big fan. That is a real intellect and pioneer of the Flash medium. He creates his own scripting and keeps pushing the envelope of Flash design.

Ok fair enough. I am really not being critical though, but to me having a tiled background image is like a very basic thing to edit, and seen as though they have managed to create this site + include their own forums it just seemed a little weird. Anyway moving away from that, I have actually met Joshua Davis when I went to one of his workshops. You're right though, he has some pretty amazing idea's and scripting knowledge.

That's fantastic that you met him and was part of his workshop. I would love to take one of his classes/workshops but I live in Canada. He was here for a convention, but I unfortuently wasn't able to go due to my forth year thesis. Hopefully he will come again PS - I am liking the avatar. Nice job Apple

What are you studying? Graphic design, specifically editorial design. Actually, I have just a semester left to get my BDes (Bachelor of Design) and then I am out into the real world

I am currently doing freelance work for two companies so there are options there, but I am really hoping to get into a magazine company and do editorial design. But maybe I could also apply to various design firms around the city and see where that gets me. It's quite nerve racking.

Nah don't worry about it. Your college should usually help out with placements after your course is complete. As long as you have a decent enough portfolio you will find a job somewhere no problem. It's a competative market though.

Ok, well if you need help, you just have to add this code into your source (removing the previous background image):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<STYLE TYPE="text/css">
<!--
BODY { background-image: url(myimage.jpg) }
BODY { background-repeat: no-repeat }
BODY { background-position: center }
-->
</STYLE>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
