I was wondering if anyone knew how to help me! I use Firefox and I love it and have never had any problems but for th past two days whenever I log into a site (here, myspace etc) it doesn't really log me in, although where it says "Members Online" I'm listed, yet I can't access any of the threads. Does anyone know why this is? I'm so confused/frusterated

Have you recently added any extensions to firefox or alterd your cookie settings? Plus what version are you running?

I haven't added anything as far as I know, and I looked it up and it says I have version 1.0.4.0. Does that make sense? I'm really not sure, I just download the new versions when it tells me too, heh. And thanks for your help

Yeah a few times a week. I'll do it now and then get back to you! Hopefully it's okay, as everything else seems to be alright.

A random thought and it could be a red herring but is your Java up to date. I know I've had problems with Javascripts running strangely in the past.I'm not sure if its a Java function that puts your name up on here but its worth a look.
[edit] I turned of Java and it all still works so I'm stumped again. I'll try to have a think.....

I checked for spyware/adware with Norton, Ad-Aware and Spybot and together they only came up with 3 things, which I deleted and it's still not working. And to be honest I'm not really super good with computers so I'm not quite sure what my Java is :/

Java is a bit weird, its a bit like Flash and shockwave in that its a little program that allows the construction of web pages that are more complex and interactive than html alone. The easiest way is to go to www.java.com/en/ and you can check from there if your up to date. And play fake pacman which is ok for a bit. I can't think straight at the moment as my kidneys hurt and I'm medicationally challanged. Though I'd be tempted to say if all else fails remove then, re install Firefox.

Agh. I removed Java and Firefox and re-installed them.. and it still isn't working. It's so weird because I can sign into some things but not others, it's confusing. I'm just going to restart and maybe that'll work. And thank you for you help [karma!]

Okay, that didn't work either but I've fixed it!!! Yay. I had turned off the "Allow sites to set cookies" option for some reason, but I turned it back on and everything's okay. Phew.

Ok heres my deffinition of what cookies are, they are little bits of code that a website puts on your computer for whatever reason. These are usually benign and remember things for you or tell a web site how often you visit a page, how you like to view a website. For example I use www.mydidgiguide.com and the cookies for that site remind their server whih chanels I want information on and in what order. Bad cookies tell another computer things you don't want other computers to know like where you go before and after visiting a site and are how ad and spy wear work. Personally what I do with cookies is go through the list of cookies every couple of weeks or so and delete and ban from writing cookies any site that I don't know or trust. Most sites don't need cookies to work unless they are site you interact with, like message boards or email companies if you block yahoo or hotmail they will not let you on at all.
