Does anyone feel now that they have made it to pretty much super stardom that the band that was once pretty much your little secret is now everyones I've been a fan since early YAYM and used to enjoy telling people about them, their storey and introducing people to their music. Now it seems everyone has got them as their favourite music over myspace and face book and they have become just another band Just me being pathetic?

nooo i know exactly what you mean, except i haven't been a fan since YAYM... i was musically challenged back then. i feel pretty selfish thinking this, but when i saw the wembley pictures Rachy roo posted in the tours section with the insanely huge crowd, i couldn't help but think, thank god they don't play such big gigs here. i want nothing but amazing success for them, cuz well, they certainly deserve it, but i love my intimate shows, i guess

and the venues are bigger...and poseurs like them...and they get body guards to escort them to the bathrooms
but yes in the end its good, they're doing well for themselves and in they're playing 4 shows in ireland in just over a year.
anything that spreads they're music is a beautiful think
....i guess

I don't feel that way about Kings of Leon, 'cause there not that big over here. They did get a lot of attention during the summer, with the festivals and all, but that has faded a bit. Fans and Charmer doesn't even get played here, which is weird 'cause On Call was played over and over again during the summer. But I do know the feeling. One day (a couple of months ago) this radio presenter claimed to have discovered Regina Spektor and introduced Samson. Everyone I knew suddenly 'loved' that song and Regina. I already knew her, 'cause of her duet with the Strokes, and bought her albums, told people about her and stuff, but no one seemed to care, 'till Samson got played on the radio of course. Then I was like: Okay .. But I still have The Strokes and Adam Green. I did try to encourage my friends to listen to them, but they all hate that kind of music, so now they are just for me .

That's kinda how i feel. All my mates don't like KOL's music, so i manage to steer relatively clear of other fans. I know that if they did though i'd go mad. And anyone else i know who likes them thinks i'm weird because i like them so much - but i don't care

yeah, i still ask people if they know who they are. some say they have heard of them, but most say they have no idea who they are

gosh this will sound really sad, but the other day i snapped at my friend for insisting she liked KOL after listening to Ragoo which i informed her could be the new single! i'm REALLY selfish with the guys, but not with you Happyaloners, but i want them to do well so it's kinda confusing

I know exactly what you mean, i was a big fan for years and tried to introduce them to my friends (who are complete scenesters and of didn't consider anything outside the Top 20 good music), who of course dismissed them. And ever since they got big after their outstanding performance at Oxegen and Fans became a major hit - suddenly all my friends talk proudly about how good KOL are as if they discovered them. Whenever one of my friends turns to me and tells me ''I heard a great band the other day, Kings of Leon - they're a new band'', i just swallow the near unstoppable urge to flip them upside down and mop the floor with them and say - ''Yes, i have''.
If you love something - love it enough to let it go

I completely understand! It's like, i want their venues to be packed out 'cause it feels good, for the band and us! At the same time, imagine if they got as big as say, the arctic monkeys? I'd cry!
[edit] NEON! YOU AMAZE ME! I couldn't of done that. Mind you, all my mates know of my obsession so that would be unlikely to happen. You shouldn't have to let them go mate. Let everyone know of your love for KOL! Mind you i understand what your saying, it's for the best to let something you love go. Not sure why, but i just find it to hard to do that.

Oh of course, i still love KOL and they'll probably always be one of my favorite bands, but i don't claim rights to them over my friends or anything. No point getting angry at my friends, when it comes to music they don't know better anyway

Exactly, I just wish i could accept that. I need to learn not to be selfish, 'cause i am and it's annoying but i can't stop! Well I am when it comes to things like KOL. At least i would be if they liked them...

My initial reaction to their rising popularity is more like, "Duh! I told y'all. Now give me my gold star and thank me for sharing this band with you". Only I just say that in my head, except for one instance regarding Regina Spektor. I nearly bitchslapped a friend for trying to introduce me to her, when I had blabbed about her to him years ago.
I'm really happy that KOL is getting bigger. I know I'll have to deal with higher ticket prices and bigger venues but I don't care. We'll see more of them in magazines and on television. That's enough for me to celebrate. And about intimacy being lost...well, the kind of intimacy I crave with this band never existed because they've always been to big to give me a private show. Plus I love the energy of lots of obsessed fans like myself. So I'm a happy camper I guess. I actually can't wait for the US to catch up with the rest of the world in KOL fandom.

It's so true! But you can always remember that you're a bigger fan than everyone else by reminding yourself about various facts that only basic fans know... even with something as simple as... who nacho is, all of those "On Calls my fav song!!!" people may think you're weird but at least you know you're a freak and they aren't! That's how I sleep at night!

Haha, same here. I love being able to say "TOLD YOU SO!!!" like I'm 6. Your Regina Spektor story also reminds me of a friend of mine trying to introduce me to the new and upcoming band Modest Mouse. I was like "Dude, I was telling you about them SEVEN years ago!" I'm glad she's getting into them, but shows how much attention she paid.
