So I was thinking the title is pretty weird, "mcfearless". I mean the fearless part makes sense with the lyrics about havin the courage and all, but the "mc?" So then I remember Caleb saying it was almost like a KOL rap song to the "haters". Im sure he was only joking but maybe the name means "M.C. Fearless" like as a rappers name or something, and he just slid it in as kind of a weird inside joke. Or maybe not, who knows.

I think Caleb said that Jared came up with the name of the song because it was his bad ass bass line that inspired it. Caleb apparently calls Jared McFearsome or something like that so Jared decided to call it McFearless. I was just listening to the xfm interview on buckyboo's multiply site. He explains it there

Zane Lowe interview;
Zane "Who's McFearless in the band" Caleb & Nathan "That's Jared" Z "You like to name songs after your little brother, right?" C "I let him name that one cos it came from like a bass line, and so i told him he could name it." N "It was that or Pee Pee Pants! But he went with McFearless" Z "No surprises there!"
I love that!!

"The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless" is the name of a book by Frank Zappa's son.
Just a weird fact I thought I'd throw in.

I thought it was a McDonald's reference. Regardless, the song rocks.

Back in April, I interviewed Nathan for a cover story for the USA magazine Hittin' the Note (www.hittinthenote.com). I asked him about "McFearless" and some of the other odd song titles on the new CD.
I didn't have room for his answers in the cover story. But below is the transcript of our conversation -- an "exclusive" for the site:
Me: I know you don’t write the lyrics, but if I asked you what the title "McFearless" referred to could you tell me?
Nathan: Oh yeah, for sure. My little brother Jared, his nickname is McPherson. And that song is bass-heavy and he came up with the riff, so we named it "McFearless" in honor of McPherson.
Me: Where does the title "Ragoo" come from?
Nathan: Ummm.. I don’t know. I think we had all been sipping on some beverages in the lounge area and I think someone just spit that one out. I’m not 100 percent positive.
Me: So the band now prefers those sort of impressionistic titles?
Nathan: Yeah for sure. We don’t want it to be so super obvious. I mean like .... beat someone over the head with the lyric which is the title of the song. We make songs more for the way they make us feel. Or a name that sounds like it fits the song in our minds, I guess. But I don’t think we would ever have a self-titled record, or a record titled after the name of a song.
