ok guys, dont laugh too hard, coz u'll make me wanna cry, but i have no idea when it comes to bands and guitars.. i have a question.. obviously jared plays bass...now, both caleb and matt play guitar...but when theyre playing, r they playing the exact same thing??..now i know that obviously they arent always playing the same thing at the same time, coz there are geetar solos, which are clearly played by only one of em (usually matt of course)...whats the diff between lead and rhythm guitar... some one help me! im very uneducated when it comes to guitars!! hence it taking me like 10 minutes just to poisition my fingers for one chord!
are matt and caleb usually playing different things (or chords) in a song?

The solos are "Lead Guitar", and the so-called "background guitar" is rythum. The opening to Black Thumbnail, for example, is rythum guitar. I suppose someone else can explain it better than me. I'm sure there are plenty of times when they are actually playing the same notes too.

Yeah Caleb plays the basic chords and Matt sometimes plays something similar over the top for emphasis or does the solos (or sometimes plays nothing or even a triangle!). For example, in Red Morning Light they both play the chords although i think (correct me if i'm wrong) Matt only plays the bottom 3 or 4 strings whereas Caleb plays the whole lot (so the intro is Matt). Then obviously when it comes to the solo Caleb plays the backing chords while Matt does the er... solo.
Hope that helped and wasn't too patronising!

yea you know if you just listen to one ear in headphones you'll hear what each guitar is playing....although it won't always be the same guitar player in the same ear...
if that makes sense...
