I'm sure this topic has already been covered, but i just discovered these boards...so yeah. Anyways, i've been a KOL fan for a while now and loved their first three albums and i do like the new one. When i saw KOL in st. louis they played, of course, alot of new stuff which i didnt mind, i figured they would, but when they would play new songs the whole crowd would sing...but when they'd play an older tune less than half the crowd knew the words. It was really sad. Also what's up with KOL having a 'mood' to the band now with the all black thing all the time? I'll still support this band because they made such great rock n roll songs, but i'm losing faith. They're gettin too trendy and i think they need to cool it with the guitar techs and drum techs. It almost seemed like they were saying "gimme that cig, now that beer, here take the beer back im done, now a water, i only want two drinks, take it back" it just made me mad to see them like that. I spose it was bound to happen. I'm just sad to see such a great band fall to shambles almost.

i still think they're new album is good and they look good still, how they dress doesnt effect their music but in my personnal opinion i liked the old style and the old music more, but i say that about every band i love!

i dont follow that at all? people grow and, as they do, so does their music/stage presence/styles. KoL is one of the few bands i know who have taken huge steps forward on every album they do and in Cleveland they didnt seam to be acting like pop stars or owt. some people just want a band to be "theirs" and they say they're "selling out" when more people get into it. do you just wana be cool by saying you like bands that nobody's heard of? i dunno, enjoy the music man, thats what its about.

i say i like the old style of about every band i know too haha
KOL definately hasnt taken big steps forward every album...youth and young manhood, aha shake heartbreak, and their first EP are about the same album. GREAT records though. i think those songs are all some of my favorite rock n roll songs ever, just simply great songs. im not saying they're 'selling out' but it does seem that way. im not saying i just wanna listen to bands nobody's heard of, but it seems by the time the major population 'finds' my favorite bands the bands have changed drastatically to a more pop sound.
i do fuckin enjoy the music, i just dont enjoy the new cd as much as i do the older ones. all the trendy fucks who are gettin in to KOL just piss me off.

Anyone who has followed the band since they began can see how they've improved as musicians. That should be expected. I really don't see their latest cd's music as selling out either. Songs like McFearless, Black Thumbnail, and some others, are not written simply to make the top 40 countdown. If that was the case, I'm sure they'd have replaced "asshole" in Fans. Just my $0.02

i'm just sick of reading interviews where the focus is placed on their clothes, not the music they make.

i'm just sick of reading interviews where the focus is placed on their clothes, not the music they make. true, but it is a bit annoying that they seem to be making a conscious effort to all dress in black. they need some variation and go back to their old style for sure. as for the music, you can definately tell that BOTT is them showing how they have improved and what they have learned and personally i think its equally as awesome as the other two. however, i reckon the next album will be more settled down and a well balanced mix of old and new.

If that was the case, I'm sure they'd have replaced "asshole" in Fans. Just my $0.02 my favorite bit. i really dont think they're writing for the money and i dont understand why people find their changing so suprising.

im glad someone else agrees with me about the dress.
yeah i also think the next album will be a nice mix of the new and old. i do like the new cd though, it's almost like a completely different band...which is good. i dont find their changing surprising, i expected it and i also didnt think they'd put out the same album again and again (i would have liked it though haha).
regardless kings of leon rule. their new fans dont, but the band does.
