When you guys first started listening to them (i mean the true FIRST listeners) was it because of the story or te band?
Nathan mentioned it in an interview...their story had a lot to do with their overnight success. Is it true? or was it the music?
What do the real English Folk or Lads or Chaps or Lasses say?
(no offense on the names.......we dont have nicknames like that in America. We're just fat.)

Right on. Id rather hear than that believe most of their popularity is due to the "good vs. evil" image.
I wish I lived in Europe. How are things over there. Style, music, everything?
I hear the food is a little dry....Got Pepper?

I just seen a clip of them playing RML and tbh I laughed at first and thought "have this band came from a fuckin time portal?" as the clothes they had on looked as though they were straight from 1970. RML stuck in my head though and now I am addicted and borderlining saddo. EDIT: I am Scottish, we like the Kings aswell

He said they were like Zeppelin in that they sounded really great but dressed very bad. Hehehe. Sorry.... That was off-topic! *backing out of thread*

A friend once told me to check em out (being country sort o'folk).... but until then i hadn't really listened to their music. i was plesantly surprised at such an descovered sound, the folk & Rock and Blues & indie sort of mix, right up my street. I never heard no hype in my end of the land. just the sound... I am not a farmer.

i first saw them on jools holland 03, it was the music more than anything else but i think the story did get them noticed byt the press ie nme a lot quicker than they would have been otherwise.

Believe it or not a sub History teacher told me about them and I went home and listened to them.. I was amazed as the rest of his music taste was pretty pants.

I actually got into them through this guy at college so that must've been '03/'04? He introduced me to loads of great bands so i believed him when he said they were good. I made him copy Y&YM for me, and i guess karma got me back for not buying it because only half the tracks worked. So I saved my pennies and bought it eventually. I've been hooked ever since. I'll admit I found the story of their childhood really intriguing but I loved the music well before I heard about it. =]

Young history teachers see mto have really good music taste (in australia atleast). My first histroy teacher in year 8, was form england and she liked kings of leon, and this other one loves arcade fire and interpol andi aalwyas chat to him aobut them and i got him into kol

Scottish too!! It was music for me, Molly's got me hooked. Didn't know much about them until ASH and got a little obsessed!! I don't think that the back story has that much to do with their success - just because it is the first paragraph in every review ever written about them ever!!!! Yes NME, i'm talking about you!! We're not that easily swayed.... are we?

No I love KoL because of their music, not the other way round.
That said, their quirkiness is definately a plus and helps them stand out. Red Morning Light was the first song of theirs I heard and I've been obseesed ever since
