i like the pixies reference. i've gotten that from other songs.
i hated charmer the first 5 times i heard it. now i love it. the screaming is still awkward though.
stand up to a giant. say that i'm a fighter.

It shocked my sister & I...which caused us to later start laughing because we totally didn't see it coming the first time we heard the song.

I love how Caleb's helion screech on 'Charmer.' I haven't been able to scream like that since I was in grade school. And the joys of having an older brother.

I really don't see why some people found it weird or funny first time they heard Charmer... First time I listened to the album I was with my sister and both of us totally loved Charmer...

We're not really saying we don't love it, because believe me we fucking adore it, but when you first hear it it takes you a-back, y'know?

I think the song itself-not just the screams-is definitely reminiscent of early Nirvana (prior to Nevermind).... I love it! If I'm not mistaken one of Nirvana's influences was the Pixies.

i thought it was grand the first time i heard it. it reminded me of yaym when his voice was more rusty. i think he lost the rust on ash I agree, his voice has drastically changed (I'd say improved, but I'm not sure if I prefer his voice now, or back then...I'm still debating, it's difficult) anyway, I hate asking personal questions about the band, but did he quit smoking? I ask because I'm a singer, and there is always a huge difference in vocals when someone is smoking or stops smoking. He just sounds so different in Because of the Times, so much more polished.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he quit. I say that because there were plenty of pictures and videos from their earlier years where he had cigarettes. Now, I never see any. Besides that, his voice really does sound cleaner.
I kinda miss the old vocals. I like the new voice, but the old voice was unlike any other.

whenever i sing along, i can never get that scream right. sometimes i do the breathe in squeal. and sometimes i just try and do the scream, and my throat ends up hurting afterwards.

charmer's my favorite song on BOTT. it was amazing live. i'm impressed that caleb actually does it that well every night.

i wonder if 'charmer' is the reason Caleb takes honey onstage every night. its certainly different! i love it.

i love "charmer." i was sorta ready for the scream because i had read the a review in a magazine before listening to the CD and they talk a little bit about it. it was a good surprise just like the rest of the CD! it was one of the best surprises of my life! :]

Absolutey loving KOL, Charmer is a blinder! Ridiculous post but what the hell! Who burst out laughing the first time they heard 'charmer' and in particular the screaming vocals. Hillarious! Every time I play the track in the car I can see dogs cocking their ears as I drive past, he gets that high! Still...absolutely awesome! She's such a charmer...oh no!

I read in an interview that they had all quit smokin except Matt - so ye that might explain the change in his voice. I think it is a bit more gargaly now - i kno, i kno it's not a word!!
