www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/42085-because-of-the-times"A cynical, acoustic sing-along, "Fans" slyly presents narcissism as gratitude. (Remember the two themes.) You know the routine: the band tours, generously measures its own importance, then transcribes journal entries about the cosmic emptiness of fame. With two stanzas ending with "Make a sound for me" and "The king they want to see," the song forms a heartfelt tribute to their real No. 1 fans: Kings of Leon. " Hilarious.

They focused the whole review on what the songs were about instead of what they sounded like. The reviewer said he wasn't convinced of their emotions in it. Bull shit. How can he complain about a ROCK N' ROLL album that talks about GIRLS?!? That's what they know.
Parts of the review were sort of funny, though. He compared the screams in "Charmer" to David Lee Roth's screaming in "Ghost Busters" Not really accurate, but funny.

i lost the measly amount of respect i had for pitchfork during that jet album review, and i can't stand jet.
they seem bias. if they like a band, they'll praise pretty much anything that band puts out, if they don't they won't. simple as.

pitchfork likes generic, boring music. ex. junior boys, the knife, animal collective etc.

yea i must agree pitchfork is totally biased against bands. they have done this with every other kol cd and to be honest it really pisses me off. if you're gonna review albums at least be honest about it, you can't say that this is a bad cd; they've progressed in every category possible. i mean obviously they're gonna be singing about the same stuff as they always have. this is one of my favorite cd's of the year; possibly of all-time. i read this review assuming the rating would be really high and they had no real reasons to give it a low rating. the rating is totally unjustified.

I just think it's a funny miserable dork, you just have to laugh about this kind or reviews 'cause honestly the guy seems more like a comedian than a true journalist.

Ha ha he is probably angry because hes not even considered a writer by pitchfork, if you click on his name nothing shows him on the team!
hes not even an intern (not saying interns are bad we all have to start somewhere)

Pitchfork won't give a good review to a CD unless it has a glockenspeil or harpischord or some other weird instrument I can't spell in it. KOL, being a traditional rock n' roll band, doesn't use glockenspeils. Thus, bad review. Other artists (ex:Andrew Bird) who use glockenspeils, get good reviews. They've just made a simple formula which doesn't really work.

They gave 2 radiohead and pavement albums a 10.0, I like pavement but 10.0? and radiohead's KID A simply doesn't hit the mark for perfect albums.

I got Kid A when it came out and it was the biggest disappointment ever. To this day I think it was a major turn for the worse after OK Computer which I still love.

'oc-friendly'?! A rock 'n' roll album about women? big-f*cking-woo, Layla and other assorted love songs, anyone? And despite this guy thinking that Kings were stuck in the 1970s they have released some of the best most original music for quite some time. This guy does seem to have a chip on his shoulder with regards to Kings of Leon, however it is quite wittily written.
And what does this guy think hair metal to be?!!

Basically, he's a crap journalist. He obviously went in with prejudice on the band and isn't professional enough to listen with a clear head. He could have written that without even listening to it. Oh well, its now a Number 1 Album. So while he sits in his crappy job, they will beliving it up "cracking open the old crystal"

Pitchfork has never liked the kings and all reviews complain way more about their style, image, and lyrics rather than the music- go back and read all three- those guys are like the music snobs you hang with at a bar who has to always one-up you with a band they know that no one else does- plus, you can't understand a word of their review- try to dazzle us with giant words nobody ever uses of gives a shit about- i hope those fuckers come to the chicago shows and get blown away
