Ok so I have been listening to the new album about 10 times a day for the last week (ok slight exaggeration, 8 times) and I love it. However I also love the old stuff so much and the new and old is soo different.
On the one hand I love the new music and respect them for growing as a band and growing musically, on the other I kinda wish that they just kept pumping out tunes like Red Morning Light, Spiral Staircase, Wasted Time, Soft, Four Kicks and Velvet Snow.....
Its like there was two paths the band could take, go with the flow and stuff we all love or try new things. The outcome of both paths is awesome but either way you always feel a bit sad because you never get a chance to hear the outcome of the other path....
Anyone else fell like this? (Or am I just waffling shit?)

I agree with you there, the old stuff is so fantastic that it would be great to hear more. But on the other hand, the fact that they're constantly evolving as a band is very admirable. And after all, they've already written the old songs, so at least you've heard them and know what they're capable of. And who knows, one day when they've run out of ideas for completely original material, they can always go back to their roots!

Yeah, sometimes I wonder what it would have been like had they just kept making similar songs. I remember when ASH came out, I really didn't like it and it took me a while to get over the fact that it was so different, but really, it would be sort of a waste of talent just to keep making the same kinds of records all the time. Would you really like them as much if they had three albums that all sounded the same? So at times I agree that it would be nice to hear some throwback type songs, but overall I'm much more appreciative of the growth in songwriiting and musicianship and am glad that they continue to develop a unique sound.

As weird as it may sounds, and believe me I know that it sounds different in a whole lotta ways, I just don't find it THAT completely different from the other two albums, I mean you got the same kinda pumping bass lines, and the riffs are head nodding as always and Caleb's voice n' lyrics are edgy just the same, and well Nathan's drummin' is by far better but he was always great as a drummer. I know it's different, please, I'm not sayin' that, but I don't think is a HUGE jump, I think they're the same only a bit evolved

If they kept on pumping out the same tunes only us fans would love it.
