Hi, I'm new to this board and a new Kings of Leon fan . I was reading some of the reviews of Aha Shake Heartbreak and pretty much all of them were talking about the sexual references in the album. Well, I understand mostly all of the references in the album except for the Taper Jean Girl chorus. "Cunts watch their bodies, no room for makeup". I don't understand this. What does it mean and what's the sexual reference in it, besides the word "cunts"? Just curious. Hrmm.... When I think of Caleb Followill's lyrics, I think of a quote from Robert Plant when he was asked to explain "Stairway To Heaven:" "We were all high on Moroccan dope at the time, so who knows?" So, erm, yeah... I think their lyrics may even be a mystery to them. But one thing I've noticed about the ol' C-word is that it's seemed to evolved recently from being a nasty word for a woman to just being a nasty word for anyone. The power is slowly being sucked out of its meaning. So Caleb may not have been talking about women in particular when he wrote this line. He may have been irritated with everybody. Hehe. He's also really good at employing ambiguity and double-entendres. "Make up" could mean, like, Revlon, or he may be talking about "making up" after an argument for example. Orrrr... He might be talking about a person's "makeup," like, the very composition of their personality. In that case, the line might be a description of loathesome people who have no substance. But in the end, I have no idea! Hehehe. Much ado about nothing... Sorry about that.

Calebs lyrics, in a way, are reflected straight from his subconcious, which is made up of intangible elements. His lyrics are written in a way that really only he could truely understand. I really appreciate this approach to his lyrics, its very poetic and real, very original too and doesnt conform to convention.

Oh, hey, I found this. Jared is talking about his mom: ‘I’m really scared about her reading the lyrics for our new record. She can’t understand most of them on the first record, but, God, she hates some of them,’ Jared confesses. ‘I think the C word pops up a couple of times this time. That will break her heart. We’re thinking about changing it…’Well, it doesn't give you much of a clue as to what the song's about or what the sexual reference is, if there is one. However, it's interesting that Jared hints they were contemplating taking the C-word out at one point. The fact that they didn't (and that they subsequently made their mom cry!) must mean that the word is integral to the meaning of the song... Hrrmmm... Just thought it was interesting!

well i think that in taper jean girl it is actually a sexual reference, cause like yall have already said, calebs mom hates that word. and "taper jean girl" is actually calebs mom. they say she is the one who fixes all their jeans so tight. and since she hates that word. "taper jean girl.... Kills me"
