Helo everybody, this is my 1st post and I just had to write it about the Kings' concert here in Rio de Janeiro yesterday.
Guys... I never saw that day coming but...I FINALLY SAW THE KINGS PERFORMING LIVE !!!! OMG, it was just too amazing for words. We have a anual festival here in Brazil called TIM Festival. Some foreign bands are invited and it's always a great thing 'cuz you meet all kinds of people with the same musical taste as you. This year, we had The Strokes (who were absolutely awesome, they played like...4 or 5 songs from the upcoming "First Impressions On Earth" album), Kings Of Leon, The Arcade Fire, Kings Of Convenience, Elvis Costello, Television, M.I.A. and some others.
I never thought so many people here liked the Kings I mean...everybody was singing along and gettin' all excited and stuff...it was trully GREAT. Caleb and the rest of the Followills were extremely hot as usual (especially young Jared) and played a wonderful set that started with "Molly's Chambers" and finished with "Tranni". They played songs like "Milk", "King Of The Rodeo" and "The Bucket" of course, I almost fainted from excitement.
The most remarkable thing for me, was Nathan's drumming. I mean...he was so powerful and so strong, he blew me away, I didn't expect him to be such an kick-ass drummer.
Well, everything was perfect, the set, the guys, the music...it was sooo damn hot, everybody was covered in sweat (band included) and I almost passed out...but it was all worth it, I saw one of my fav bands in all their glory and I LOVED IT.
The Strokes were very good as well, Julian is such a good singer and you could see it in his eyes he was amazed 'cuz everybody was singing their songs and screaming their names. Fabrizio (the drummer, who's brazillian) steped up to the mic and spoke portuguese with us, Julian also kept talkin' in portuguese (guess he picked up some stuff from Fabrizio) and Drew Barrymore was also there. There was this one time at the end of the Kings set, I looked at the left side of the stage and saw the Strokes watching their concert and havin' a good time. I saw Fabrizio kissing this girl and when I realized it I was like: "OMG !! IT'S DREW BARRYMORE !"
So, it was pretty cool, one of the best nights of my life. I hope both bands realize they have many fans down here in South America and they should come more often.
X O X O !

That's awesome. I'm glad you had such an amazing time. Seeing the Kings is incredible but seeing ALL those bands at the same event must've been really awesome. Oh, and welcome to the board! x

Surprise...I opened up the newspaper this morning and there it was: "The preacher boy's of Kings Of Leon played a brilliant tight set. They seemed a little nervous and shy, they didn't shine as much as the Strokes did; but they sure did their jobs and led the crowd wild with power driven guitars and excelent vocals."
The Kings played for like.....an hour and a half. They started at 8PM sharp and were done by 9:30. About any TV or radio stations recording the gigs...MTV did broadcast the whole thing but I don't think they showed the Kings' set cuz there were other bands and artists performing at the same time. : ( OK, let me explain this better: There's the official TIM Festival that takes place in this very cool structure by the beach. Inside this structure, there are areas you can hang out. There's the Main Stage area (where the most famous artists performed), TIM Lab (where there was only electro music), the TIM Lounge (where you could just rest and sit and talk with everybody) and some others. So, they started selling the tickets to the concerts and I only discovered that five days later and when I went to buy mine, I couldn't get any. I cried out of anger, I was soooo mad at frustrated at the same time...I mean, think about it ! Some of Ur favourite bands who NEVER come to your country finally decides to play there and you just...couldn't buy tickets ! Some days later, I found out that The Strokes requested the Festival's production an extra concert, 'cuz they knew lots of people didn't get tickets and wanted to see them. So, they teamed up with the Kings and decided to do a second performance at a much larger place. That was when I bought my tickets and life was good again ! hahahahaha
That bein' explained, MTV only broadcasted the offical TIM Festival, not the bonus gig thing. But I think there's a DVD coming out with some cool footage, I saw lots of people who were involved with the event taping and filming everything.
About the setlist they played (in no particular order): Slow Nights So Long, Tranni, Molly's Chambers, Pistol Of Fire (one of the highlights), Holy Roller Novocaine, King Of The Rodeo, Wasted Time, Rememo, 4 Kicks, The Bucket, Milk (definetly the best song - I almost cried), Razz, California Waiting, Red Morning Light, Taper Jean Girl, Velvet Snow...
There were others songs, I don't really remember right now. They didn't play any new songs, I was kinda hoping they did too but it didn't happen. Hey, I'd love to hear the Kings's opinion on the gigs they played here, if anybody sees anything, please let me know ! I think they liked Rio de Janeiro, it was sunny when they got here, I think they enjoyed the people, the weather, the booze...maybe the girls ?? : )
And yeah, I think both Kings and Strokes got that they have a large public down here and that they're always welcome. I wish they'd bring The Cardigans next year or anytime soon. They just released a new album so it'd be a great opportunity to promote it here in South America.

i knoww...not only in brazil, in argentina happened the same thing.!! ¬¬ i hate them not even a little bit of respect to kol, who, by the way, did a kickass show that was ten times better ... all about the strokes..and the worst part is that most of the people there only knew them becouse of last nite, reptilia and 12 51 annoyin

And the fact that casablancas didn't dance, or talk with the public (or something like tjis, joining whit the people) have no problem, because, 'julian casablancas is perfect'. just singing last nite, the end has no end and reptilia. well, i like strokes, but not so much, and not to do the same thing that people did at the kol concert. its really made me sad.
