I was on the Saddle Creek records(Bright Eyes) site and this was someones response to the rise in fame of the band The Shins after the Garden State sndtrk:
"yea, but im at least glad THEYRE getting all the hype and fame, rather than fucking...kings of leon or some other record companies studio made band."
Anyone want to comment? Kinda pissed me off

Some peoples opinions either don't matter or can never be changed. That is one of those people. We can't go around fighting everyone who doesn't like the the Kings... Let them learn on their own...

was it a guy who said this? i get alot of guys saying they "Don't get this Kings of Leon thing"
i think alot of guys get jealous of the female attention that KOL get. i guess the best put-down he could muster is that they're a record company gimmick band.
i've thought about this alot and after much deliberation... i think my response is 'fuck him'.... .......yes, that's definitely my response. thank you for asking.

I definatly don't think they're fake or a made up rock n roll boy band or something like that. Some people are going to say those things but it's just sillyness.
Also, The Shins are seriously fucking amazing.

i JUST now got home from a Shins show here in oklahoma city...they are really good...and that comment about KOL being studio made?....lame
the opening band for The Shins was The Brunettes...you guys should check them out...they're pretty descent

The way i look at it is that the shins are kinda like the modern day beatles (but not that crazy awsome, though i absolutley love them), and the kings are the modern day stones. I know most of you will disagree with me, but the kings and shins are the only two bands to be concerned with right now, plus or minus the strokes and the white stripes lol.

I think The Shins can be fun....
a ton of my friends became obsessed with them a couple of yrs ago (pre-Garden State, I'll have you) but I never bought their cd, because, even though I agree that they're cool....it's not the kind of the thing that I feel like I could listen to over and over. I just don't get "into it" enough to satisfy my tastes.
Anyway, I did buy the GS soundtrack, because I'm absolutely in love with that movie (and zach braff-- if you don't read his blog, you should) and I definitely like the two (I think) songs that are on there... New Slang is a classic of our generation.

I've been into them for a while and I'm not one of those indie-snobs so I really love people who are getting into them now after Garden State. Maybe if it was someone other than Zach Braff but it's not, and he's so great, haha. Seriously though they really deserve the attention.

I think when Kings first started making waves in the UK a lot of speculation went round the music scene that they made up all the stuff about their background & their dad & they're actually a record company manufactured band. Which of course is all bollocks!

liz not being an indie snob = awesome! indie snobs make me sad. yeah. they're fun to make fun of though. indie snobs are people who only listen to really obscure bands (or bands they like to think are really obscure) that no one has heard of. then if and when these bands get big the indie snob will not like them anymore because they think they are sell-outs because they are getting recognition. they're silly. and ilovetherazzlekid..... what do you think of the shins?! amazing huh?  |
