I read somewhere that caleb has an alter ego he calls rooster and i was listening to pistol of fire and one line is "home before the rooster crows" is this meant to be about his alter ego does anyone know?

Yes rooster is Caleb's alter ego when he injests his share of substances. I never really thought about that line meaning that, but I would have to agree that it has to do with his alter ego. Good find.

My last 2 husbands both went by the nickname "Rooster." And they happened to be from Tennessee. Both liked their alcohol. Must be a coincidence.

maybe im more cynical, but i think caleb referring to himself as rooster is just a way of acknowledging that he can be a cock when inebriated.

Erm actually due to the Nature of the Chinese Calender I think you'll find I'm right. Rooster ran from feb 5th 1981 through to the 24th of January 1982 while Dog began on the 25th of January 1982.
