Ok, lets have a thread where we just talk about the fine music of Kings of Leon, No pictures, no is hotting and no straying of topic. I expect to see EVERYONE taking part. You don't need to have any knowledge of music just shut your eyes and say what you hear.

I dig the music of the Kings because I think they write good songs. I don't think they are particularly great musicians or anything like that. I just like how well they capture human emotion in their songs. Hearing their songs you can feel the disappointment, hopes, dreams, love, anger, insecurities ect..... I also like them b/c I think they have lots of room to grow. They are one of those bands that are so young and show so much potenial, which is why I am weary of them making certain corporate moves. I just think if their careers aren't handled with a great deal of delicacy they could fizzle out and not live up to all their potential.

what are each of the songs about?
four kicks - fighting red morning light - a hooker joes head - a guy shooting his cheating girl razz - kids soft - being too drunk to funk mollys chambers - a femme fatale the bucket - how they started to piss each other off after too much touring holy roller novocaine - trying to lay a girl (virgin?)
might be wrong on some of those... anyone know?

The lyrics in Youth & Young Manhood take me away to another world full of sadness & hope &....ok this sounds corny but I do mean it. And the music in Aha i so good, really funky. It makes me want to prance around my room.

Not to be a real bitch or anything, but there was a similar thread to this before (Music Men). But hey, nothing wrong with another thread talkin' about great music. The Kings music makes me have many emotions (that seriously doesn't make sense, but I think you know what I mean?). I get the BIGGEST smile on my face when I listen to it! xx

But this ones here for political reasons I've built so they have to come or forever hold their peace as it were. For now my random thought is how harmonically grounded the Kings are, i've only really just realised it but the chord progressions are so strong and positive.

The Bucket seems to be about a young doomed couple making a suicide pact similar to Romeo and Julliet but with hanging.

I love the bassy songs on YAYM and the guitar on Aha. They both make me dance and I love them both so much.

Crying at there songs is a bit much, no?
I think Caleb should do a bit more guitar work in some songs rather than just strumming the same 2 chords the whole way through, that way they could have a more duelling guitar effect between Matthew and Caleb which would give some of the songs more dimension.
Think they also need to lengthen some songs and maybe think about a good 5 minute epic song that takes you on a journey rather than the sub 3 minutes songs on Aha.
I like the fact that there is more basslines on Aha especially Slow Night, So Long and think they should carry on with this as it gives the songs a more funky edge.
Some more complicated drumming wouldn't go amiss and maybe the others joining in with the vocals more to get some sort of harmony effect which I think would work well.
And finally the guitar solos to be different as they are either staccato riffs repeated over and over (works well on the bucket) or just short little solos that wail for about 5 seconds and that's it.
Just my opinion.

i love the drumming!! Nathan keeps time excellently to keep each song going perfectly. This week I have been mostly listening to ( ) Molly's Hangover. I find it impossible to pick between their albums as I love them both for different reasons: YAYM for how basic and raw it is and ASH for how far they've come.

If a drummer can't keep time he's not much good is he!
Think the drumming is kept a bit simple when he should just let loose and go crazy on a couple of songs, along with the duelling guitars and maybe one of them should learn the harmonica.
Imagine a bit of lovely harmonica in whicker chair or trani

did you ever hear the really early demo version of dusty? ethan johns played some gorgeous bluesy piano on it and i have NO idea why they didnt record it like that for yaym. i thought the version on the record sounded quite cold, especially the fuzzy guitar in the breaks.
and yeah i totally agree with jane about the harmonic thing, the technically their music might be quite simple but some of the chord progressions take my breath away, especially on the new record.

on slow night so long, when matthew's guitar goes into his own timing, at the thrashing guitars bit, , i think that sense of loose timing but still keeping it together would be well transfered to nathans drumming.
Similar to the Walkmen
hope that made sense

Oh god, not another one.
I didn't say he doesn't keep time, I was commenting on the fact that someone said he kept time really well and I remarked that you expect that from a drummer.
Jesus, people should read posts carefully before having a go.
Love your films by the way
