hey, I saw the kings at Bonnaroo yesterday! it was incredibly hot, the show tent was packed and they were incredibly good. Really tight, really together. They screwed up the end of Wasted Time and Caleb coudn't get over it, making comments between the songs. They played some new stuff, maybe about 4 or 5 new songs that were incredible. Anyway, I posted pics at Photobucket, sorry there's not a lot of variety but I couldn't get closer.  |

my favs are , 8, 11, 12, and 13 i think, but all soo cool! they look realy good! what did the new songs sound like? well were they good cuz its hard to describe songs?? have you seen them before? what old songs did they play?? tel me all!

WELL> The new songs are a little less "southern" sounding I think. I guies since they weren't writing (either at all or just less) with Angelo this time around, they have developed a little more of their own "sound". The songs were really awesome, sort of reminded me of wasted time in that they had that fast paced talk-sing thing going on and WHOOOOOO they were just so ...good! Really something to look forward to. There was one song I remember thinking Oh my God, I can't wait for this to come out. I haven't seen them before and I drove 11 hours each way to go to Bonnaroo to see them And Granddaddy (who KOL watched after their show) and My MOrning Jacket (ditto), so it was quite a journey for me. I went by myself too, which was weird considering all the CRAZY hippies everywhere. Also, It was 104 degrees in the ten which made for interesting sweaty people all around. At one point Caleb said, "Fuck man. Its hot." That was funny. He was pretty funny through out. Oh, at the end of wasted time they messed up the last chorus. I think it was NAthan who screwed it up then everybody just stopped and Caleb walked back to the mic and said. "Well that one ain't going on the Bonnaroo cd." Umm, they played Holy Roller Novocaine, Wasted time, Red morning light, Wicker Chair, trani, California Waiting, Happy alone, and a bunch of new stuff. Aiyah, which is an AMAZING song, something else that Caleb introduced but I couldn't understand what he said. It sounded like Rats or something. I guess we'll see when it comes out. THEN, afterwards I met their dad, leon. that was crazy. He totally thought I was groupie (I'm a musician! I played a show once with granddaddy and wanted to say Hi to them as well) but he introduced me to Nathan by literally putting my hand in his (Nathans) while he was talking to someone else. it was kind of funny. the he says to me, "This is Nathan!" I was like, "Yeah, I know!" Then later he told me that he told them I had driven to see them and they were going to come say hi to me, but had a press conference to go to after granddaddy. I guess he felt bad or something so he came out and gave me Nathan's sweat soaked towel. The he says, "This is Nathan's. You can smell him on it." HAHAHAHAHA I love it! So I said "Thanks! Thats very kind of you." I felt kind of funny cuz I really had wanted to aske them about Ethan Johns and here I was with Nathan's wet towel. So I sniffed it, and in case you're wondering, it smelled very nice. Like Laundry detergent and ...sweat. I don't know how I feel about them thinking I'm some crazed groupie, but who cares. I got to see the show and meet their dad, who was very sweet and proud, and a towel. Woo HOO!  |

i have one word, WOW!! that sounds absolutely amazing!! is there gonna be some sort of bonnaroo cd then?! maybe there will be a live one, if there is any sort of cd with live kings tracks then you have to send me one, i'll pay you lol. dont forget the name, sel lol.
anyway, the new tracks sound great! and yeah i know what you mean its quite hard to take in new tracks when its live i think. i can never hear what he's saying and it goes by in a blur but you gotta take things in! btw, you'll have to post a pic of this towel lol. that all sounds really cool as well! if you recognise the song you were talking about when the new album comes out, let me know. i'll be interested to hear which it is. theres one i remember live but i dont have a recording of it so i cant wait to hear it again!
thanks sooo much for saying and i know everyone else will be excited in the morning too!! is there anything else u wanna add even though i know you said loads! aaahhh i'm excited for you lol. i hope this all makes sense, i am sooo tired now so i'm off! byeee and you've made my evening lol!

Aaaaw thats such a cool story, I'm glad that u had a really good time. I sooooooo can not wait for the new album.
At gigs I *never* take in anything that happens lol!! It all just goes by in an excitement whirlwind & my friends are like 'ooh do u remember when this happened' & I'm like no!! So I will hear the new stuff at the festies but won't take them in, which is always helpful. Can't wait for the new album!!
