Heres a quick review of the L.A. gig from last night.
I got to the Troub (L.A slang for The Troubadour) @ about 5pm only to find two fans waiting to get in. I brought my NME, with them on the cover, and a group pic of me an all the band I'd taken at the video shoot for "Wasted Time" for them to sign. Their tour bus was right out in front of the place, I saw Nathan on a celly and didnt want to bother him right from the start. So I went to go get in line. It was still very early for the gig. As time went on I saw the rest of the lads emerce from their tour bus and come chat with us fans and sign our stuff. Hours later they finally let us in the venue. I took down a huge KOL poster and gave it to my mate, Leanne as shes REALLLLY mad for the lads and was the one with the one an only camera we had for some snaps during the performance. I kept a smaller one for me.
We secured our spots right up front between Mathew and Caleb.
The 22-20's came out and did a good set, afraid to say but, I wasnt too up on the info of the band but, I must say they were good. Played for like 40min. Then Jet came out, I knew a few of their songs, not hardcore or anything but, I dug them for sure. Good tunes they ad. I dug the drummer, he plays hard and bloody good. They played for like 45min.
Then FINALLY the lights went dark and all hell broke loose when Caleb & Co. strolled onto the stage. First song ofcourse the main rocker "Red Morning Light" blew the roof off the mofo!! Caleb looked a bit nervous as did Mathew, I mean shit I would too if most of the place was packed with mainly "industry" snobs, media, Supergrass, The Vines (minus Craig)and other celebs.
But, they managed to pull it off! "Wasted Time" was up next and after seeing Caleb start to sweat and little brother Jared turn into Jackel Hyde whilst playing his bass, I knew then, these mutha fuckers were well on their way to yet ANOTHER kick ass night as Mathew has promised me before the gig!! They played literally the whole album, during one of the songs, Mathew was playing til the death of it cos his guitar strings started to shred off, he played in those conditions to the end of the song. "Mr Johnny-on-the-spot" roadie Nacho brought back the guitar to life in only a few minutes. About half way into the set I noticed Caleb glancing towards to the crowd and really started to loose himself in the songs, he started wiggling around, Jared started to pace the stage like a caged lion, Nathan started to really smack his skins as if he was on magic mushrooms, Mathew though just looked cool as you like smiling and playing his axe. I really loved the "gang" attitude they have on stage, really cool. Nathan gave me apologies before the gig as his voice he said would be somewhat "crap" because it was a bit hoarse but, he kept on on all his parts, ace man, ACE. They delight all the real fans by playing a new song in the encore.
My friend leanne and I at the end of the gig got Nacho to give us Nathans drums sticks and some guitar pics. We wanted to meet the band again so this really nice Industry guy saw that we WERE fans and gave us two laminated passes for the private party held upstairs in the VIP launge. We assended upstairs only to meet a wave of sweaty drunk guest. We chatted with the band, Jet, and Patrick from the Vines. Got some snaps and autographs. Good night it was.
Just wanna say that, I've heard the lads are somewhat wild and they well are but, they are the most respectful musicians I've met. Really well mannered. It was cool and made me day when we met Caleb and Jared outside their tour bus after the "after party" and as we chatted he told Leanne and I they remembered us from the shoot and stuff. Cool thx guys for giving us a goodnight and enjoyment.
(ps no we are NOT grouppies, just real fans that love thier music.)
Thx guys, see you lot at the next gig.
