It would be a personal delusion though, if you believe that "Kings of Leon is not Kings of Leon without Caleb singing."
It would still be Kings Of Leon even if Nathan was singing lead vocals on the odd song.
It wouldn't sound the same in terms of lead vocals if Nathan sung instead of Caleb but a change in the way the band sounds has already happened (many times but most clearly) with the huge difference in style between ASH and BOTT. Did that change mean that BOTT Kings Of Leon were no longer Kings Of Leon? No. I don't see how this is different. It certainly is not enough to stop Kings Of Leon from being Kings Of Leon.

Well then I'll happily take my 'personal delusion' over your pompous musical snobbery and leave this thread. Enjoy ruling sumpreme over all us mere mortals, won't you?

He could, but shouldn't. I agree with someone who said earlier that Nathan is the drummer and Caleb is the lead singer. Well, I would be happy if they made a song like Save the Population by RHCP where Frusciante sang a few verses, Nathan could do that too, but not a whole song.

It would be weird to see him do the vocals on a whole song/album, since that, for me, is Caleb's job. But I do like his voice and I wouldn't mind them giving him some parts too. For example, I've always liked the live version of SNSL where Eddie Vedder sings half of the verses. They could do something like that, let him try it out. But drumming is what he does best and maybe the drumming would suffer if he gets too much space in the vocals department, I don't know. But hey, why not give it a try I'd like to hear it. I've only heard him do backing vocals anyway.

I agree that Calebs voice is what makes KOL KOL, and it's one of the main reasons why I love them so much. I do love to hear the other guys doing backing vocals, and it would be nice to hear a bit more of that sometimes, but I personally would find it strange to hear anyone other than Caleb sing an entire KOL song.
Their sound has changed an awful lot over the years from album to album, and that's another thing I love about them, but to start having any of the others doing lead vocals would be a change too far for me personally I'm afraid. Maybe it would good as a one off or for a b-side, I dont know, but not as a regular thing. Call me set in my ways but that's just how I feel.

Although the music has changed a lot over the years, it is still definitively Kings of Leon.
I think changing something that has in many ways defined them may change the music so much that it would become unrecognizable.

It's just one song or maybe a few new ones. IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. Nathan or anyone else in the band for that matter isn't replacing Caleb.

PS. Keith Richards on Little T & A is one of the best Stones vocals I've heard. yea the stones also have many keith sung songs that could be forgotten about... not to mention "In Another Land" by Wyman which is one of the worst Stones songs ever haha

Crikey! I swear everything turns into an argument here now. Anyway, Kaiser Chiefs were still Kaiser Chiefs when their drummer sang one lonely album track. Not that any of you care about them, but yeah. If it happened you'd all love it.

While they all have the ability to take over lead vocals on a song, my opinion is that they each have their niche in the band and that's where they should say. Just because Jared can play guitar does that mean he should be lead guitarist on a song?

I agree with pretty much everyone if that's possible I'm sure he could do it, no problem. And if he did it would be really cool to hear, and I'm sure I'd love it. But I do think it's not a 'necessary' thing (and I know no one was saying it was). Particularly because Caleb's voice is such a definitive and unique thing - it always was and still is my favourite thing about the band. Now a duet, harmonising... THAT would be incredible

Just because Jared can play guitar does that mean he should be lead guitarist on a song? Why not? I think you're right though and I doubt they will change anything whether it be lead singer or lead guitarist. They might continue to play non-typical KOL instruments in the studio (Matt - piano, Caleb - clavinet) and increase backing vocal duties but thats probably the most change/experimentation we'll see on that side of things. Personally I would find it pretty cool to see Jared and Matt switch instruments on stage for a song or two, for example. Or have Matt sit down at a piano to play Talihina Sky. They do have a 5th member for touring now and I'm sure Angelo would help them out if they needed it so I think there is potential for KOL to do a lot more. Maybe they will but I get the feeling they won't. No problem either way - I'll keep liking them

I think Nate singing lead on an odd song would be great! I always love hearing his familar tones from behind Caleb, but if he had say one song on an album, a song that they played live too, I think it'd be really fun and nice to hear/watch. I don't see much reason why the KOL boys can't have a little switcharound on instruments and such every now and then, just for a few songs. Of course, the familiarity of their band positions is one of the things that's endearing about them, but a little difference every now and then would probably be enough. I'd like to see it! xxx

If they decide to change instruments and have Nathan on vocals, they might as well just start a new band. They each contribute to the band in their own unique way, and they do well at it. It is part of what has allowed them to retain that "KOL" sound. Again, their music has changed, but it is still recognizable.

I don't think an entire song sung by Nathan would be that interesting, but like some people are saying, a couple verses or some duet action would be a fun change.
I don't know why you guys are getting so heated over this, to me it just seemed like a fun idea to speculate over what it would sound like, and as far as I can tell it's still just a fun idea to bounce around, not a serious suggestion actually being put into motion. So there's really no reason to worry over which direction the "argument" goes in - because there shouldn't even be an argument. Come on.

^For my part Moose, i really don't think it's that big a deal. I have an opinion, but I don't care massively either way - I'm not losing sleep over it. I just take exception to being called deluded for having an opinion.
